ICM has informed Armorama of a new product that has come out of left field. The new product is a World War One Austro-Hungarian Infantry Weapon and Equipment set.
This new 1/35th scale product from ICM has certainly caught me on the hop as it is very rare for a World War One kit to hit the market; let alone a new product aimed directly at a specific combatants infantry. This new product titled ‘WWI Austro-Hungarian Infantry Weapon and Equipment’ has a good selection of products in it from weapons to personal kit. The set has pistols, rifles, bayonets, and grenades, then you have personal kit such as mess tins, canteens, and helmets to go hand in hand with a nice selection of tools. One item I particularly like is the rifle shield to protect the infantryman while firing above the trenches, it may be a simplistic item but it is a good inclusion. Perhaps this product is a sign that one of the majors is going to take an interest in World War One in a broader sense.

To convert their WWI Germans in Austrians?

Will they like it? But seriously...are the figs any good? Seeing as next year is the 100th anniversary of WWl it would seem a good opportunity for the big companies to make Great War stuff.

Might be usable to convert '39-'41 Germans to ww2 Hungarians too. I hope that their Austro-Hungarian figure set will be released soon.

I quickly purchased this set and have found it to be both a golden opportunity and a bit of a frustration. What's frustrating is that other than painting colors, there is virtually no information about the various items. Which MG is the 1907 model and which is the 1912 one? It doesn't say. How were the two strange grenades held while throwing them? Were they already in issue in August 1914? Again, it doesn't say. Why is there a gas mask filter (I think) but not the mask itself? I wish the set had included a backpack and the distinctive AH cap. A cavalryman's sabre would have been great too, given the colorful uniforms that are available. According to their website they are also at work on a set of WWI *Russian* equipment.
