Italeri has released news of two new products they are releasing which are an M998A1 in 1/35th scale and an M106 Mortar Carrier in 1/72nd scale.
Italeri does not have a great record of late when it comes to releasing new armoured fighting vehicles. I believe that these new announcements are also cleaned up older moulds, but I will leave it to the experts to confirm or deny that. Here is the information Italeri released on these new products.

M106 Mortar Carrier
The M-113 is, up today, one of the most successful Armored personal carrier of tanks and Armored vehicles history. Developed and designed on the ‘50s, it was able to load on board a fully equipped infantry squadron and it was able to provide close support. On the reliable and flexible M-113 frame, a lot of versions has been realized to perform specialized duties on the battlefields. The M-106 mortar carrier has been one of the most common version of the prolific M-113. Directly derived from M-113 frame it was built to transport a 107 mm. or 120 mm. heavy mortars. The mortar was mounted in a turntable in the rear troop compartment and it could be fired directly from the vehicle, but could also be fired dismounted. Furthermore, to provide a better on board efficiency, the original M-113 roof has been changed with a three part circular hatch.

M998A1
FULLY UPGRADE MOULDS
The nickname "Humvee" was created by the acronym HMMWV which stands for High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle. The Humvee is a four wheel-drive vehicle suitable, despite its impressive size, for several purposes thanks to its extraordinary operational flexibility. The Humvee has been produced in a huge number and it was used on all operation theatres by U.S Army from the beginning of 90s. The 4x4 transmission, the independent suspensions, the V8 engine with a displacement of 6,2 litres, are the main features to ensure an high efficiency on all types of terrains. The Humvee has been produced in several versions as reconnaissance vehicle , troop transport, ambulance, and warfare transportation system. A lot of times, the original versions have been changed and modified directly on the field. The Humvee crews and their mechanics adjusted the vehicles with additional protections and additional weapons to be more in line with the specific environment of the battlefield.

The M998A1 looks like nothing more than a rerelease of the M998 IED kit.

I would be interested in the M106, if it was 1:35. I agree. The M998A1 does look like the M998 IED kit.

The M998 looks pretty good. It is not Academy's kit though. By the sprues, it is Italeri's HMMWV with parts from the Revell version of soft top cargo carrier and some new parts to make the guntruck pieces. It looks pretty nice. The italeri HMMWVs are actually quite nice. The only bad part is the wheels. A set of resin wheels and it could look really great.

If it indeed is the Italeri/Revell combo, would it be a better option than the Academy version (after adding AM wheels?). I always liked this version and wanted to do one

I would go with Italeri's. They are a little better detailed when compared to the Academy kits if you ask me.

Well, guys! It's quite a difficult thing to surprise you. I was coming here just to "drop the bomb" with the new M998A1, but it's already here! It's a nice kit from what I got from the previous comments, so I'll buy one for the collection with proper AM tires. I am glad it's not the Academy kit with it's strange front hood.

There seems to be a LOT of Allied, Modern, Post 45' and US/British stuff coming out! This is great! This will allow certain manufacturers to double down on genres and nationalities they are great at and already have the R&D in place for.
