Tamiya has partnered with ICM to create an all-in-one 1/35 diorama of an Afrika Korps PaK position.

In the 1970s Tamiya marketed a series of dioramas in a bottle. Yep - you read that right. The released several of their four-figure sets in a kit including a plastic bottle (in halves) with a photograph card backdrop.

Now Tamiya has announced this set - maybe a series - of Tamiya figures and weapons with a diorama base and sheet of ground cover.

ITEM# 32408 1/35 German 7.62cm Pak 36(r) - North Africa Scenery Set: the Pak 36(r) is by ICM; 8 figures by Tamiya; looks like their ancient Tamiya Sandbag set; an 188mm x 188mm square diorama base and sheet recreating sandy terrain.

Has Tamiya lost the ability to produce anything original? Or are they just acknowledging the fact that anyone else' kits are better than their own?

Other than the mkiv male and new Japanese staff car you mean? Bashing tamiya for a lack of originality when they were the only people for years doing British woo and modern, us modern, Japanese and japenese modern and French WWII for years is a bit off

If it wasn't for Tamiya buying or licensing other manufacturers molds, they would still be in the 'Dark Ages'.

their reboxes are a fraction of what they do, and are really aimed at the Japanese market where these kits cost an arm and a leg in their original box How come people don't put the same level of bile and vitriol into their posts when Italeri, Revell, Dragon and others do it? and they invented 1/35 as a scale. I suspect its tall poppy syndrome, the bigger and better a company is, the more people want to have a go an knocking them down

Oh, I complain a lot about Dragon, too, as they've not been putting much effort into their releases lately. As for Revell and Italeri, there's not really much worth complaining about! (More fuel on the fire! Hee-hee-hee)
