Some new kits are on the way from Dragon that include a new Panther variant and a Hummel-Wespe.
Dragon Models has announced two new kits coming our way. The first is a Panther Ausf.F with the long 7.5cm. The kit will include the narrow front Schmalturm turret, DS track, and photo-etched parts. The second is the Hummel-Wespe, which was built based on the quick need of mobile artillery by mounting the 10.5cm gun on the Panzer IV frame. The vehicle was given the nickname of Bumble Bee by the Germans. The kit will include retooled fighting compartment, ammunition racks, and gun shield.

6799 - Panther Ausf.F w/7.5cm KwK42 L/100
6535 - "Hummel-Wespe" le Pz.Haub auf Hummel Fahrgestell

According to Dragon Models USA these new kits should be available in October 2104.

Did Dragon ever have plans to do a "Panther A" with zimmerit? Love to have one regardless of some folks complaining about Dragon and German armor.

I love the auto translation: " Of course, the 100-caliber gun is a brand new component, and modelers will be impressed with its length."

Thanks Kevin. It sure is one long barrel with a muzzle brake to boot! Cheers

I've had the Tamiya kit on my shelf for a while, I guess as soon as I get around to it dragon will announce thiers. It really needs aftermarket tracks but since dragon seems to have abandoned magic track in favor of DS the same would be true of a dragon kit. Was the 10.5cm hummel ever actually built or was it just a proposal, and if it was did it see service? I dont recall ever seeing a photograph of one.

Yes, there was a couple hundred built and used prior to the Wespe being built.

The Hummel was an important vehicle for units like the Leibstandarte AH, so I'm glad to see more kits like that.

Yes, there was a couple hundred built and used prior to the Wespe being built. [/quote] Do you have any source or reference for that? I'd be interested in seeing it. Did some googling and the only information I could find indicated that the 10.5cm (as opposed to the normal 15cm) was mounted on the hummel chassis at the very end of the war after wespe production had stopped, and that there is only one extant photograph, supposedly postwar. I'm not saying you are wrong and what I read is correct, I'm just curious about a vehicle I'd never heard of before this thread and would like to know more. Edit: I've got Dragon's 6321 Hummel kit mostly complete in a box somewhere and aside from some very minor fit issues it's a fantastic kit. Probably the only negative from this new kit will be the fact that it has DS tracks on a PzIV vehicle.

You are correct in that the Hummel Wespe did mount the 15cm.

Model policy of Dragon sucks. Period!
