Few companies are quite as specialized as Hard Corps Models. Since their inception, the company has concentrated ENTIRELY on update/conversion sets for U.S. Marine vehicles in the the Pacific Theater. Interesting however, as their range is, this new release is undoubtedly the most original yet..
By the time the final battles of the Pacific Campaign arrived, much experience had been gained in the complex subject of protecting AFVs from IEDs and actual suicide attacks against them. Many modifications were made including concrete/timber side armor. However, one of the more interesting was the modifications carried out to some of the M4a3s within the 4th U.S.M.C. Tank Battalion, in particular those of "C" Company.

Amongst other modifications, a series of metal 'cages' were produced to stop 'Kamikaze' grenade attacks against vulnerable areas on the vehicle - the hatches and periscopes.

Now, Hard Corps Models, with the aid of a new technique, are producing a set of FIVE 'cages' for M4a3 Shermans of 'C' Company:

These are absolutely unique in the sense that prior to this release, no-one had actually produced a set of these hatch cages.

HX 35006 - USMC 4th TB Co. "C" M4A3 Hatch Cages - Iwo Jima are available directly from Hard Corps Models (LINK) at a price of $16.95

They do indeed - i'm also damned sure that the next 'breakthrough' will be the cupolas/hatches with the 6" nails welded onto them. Personally I don't doubt for a moment they'll try it...

This HardCorpsmodels company is doing some marvelous stuff. There Amtrac tracks look outstanding, although with that price you could buy about 4 Amtracs alone... :-)
