Due to the prolific nature of DML's release schedule, the Nuremberg Toy Fair only saw a handful of new releases announced. These were covered, briefly, at the beginning of the show .on the News pages here. However, there is a LOT more coming in 2007...
It was also stated that Dragon's 2007 catalogue wouldn't be available until march. Fortunately, this was proven wrong when on my first morning at the show I was given a copy - whether or not this was simply an advance copy or not, I don't know. However, thanks to the catalogue, i'm able to piece together some indicators as to what we can expect in 2007. It's broken into three categories - Figures, Premium Edition and 'Smart Kits'

Perhaps, before strating, to avoid any confusion, it would be useful to give a quick description as to what these two terms mean:

'Smart Kits' are COMPLETELY new mouldings and use less Photo Etch than other releases. This means they are more accesible to every level of experience.

'Premium Edition' Releases are reworkings of previously available models. In some cases (such as the Panther) they have been extensively improved with the addition of new Photo-Etch, new tracks and in many cases, the inclusion of metal gun barrels.

Figure Releases

There isn't a lot which has been announced, two are already listed, the third has been mentioned:

DRA6366 - U.S. Armored Infantry: Gen2 (March release) Photos at the side..

DRA6367 - German Self-Propelled Gun Crew

DRA6368 - 2cm Flak 36 Artillery Crew (with trailer)

Although pickings may seem slim (at the moment) in figures, there are a LOT in the pipeline - watch this space!

Premium Edition Armor - 1/35th Scale

DRA6316 - Sd.Kfz250/9 with 7.5cm Kw K L/24

DRA6318 - JS-2

DRA6322 - M-26 Pershing

DRA6359 - Soviet SU-100 Tank Destroyer

DRA3539 - M51 'Isherman' (see photo at the side)

At the moment, there are at least THREE more in development. Unfortunately, I can't say any more about them (just gonna have to wait aren't you?)

Smart Kits Series - 1/35th Scale

Now, in this section, there aren't TOO many surprises although, once again the Allied modellers are getting a couple of REALLY welcome releases:

DRA6332 - M3a1 Half-Track

DRA6334 - Brückenleger IV B (Panzer IV Ausf B Bridgelayer)'

DRA6357 - 10.5cm 'Dicker Max''

DRA6360 - Sd. Kfz 181 Pz. Kpfw. IV Ausf. F2 (G)

DRA6370 - Panther G with Steel Road wheels

DRA6381 - M16 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage

For the moment, that's what's getting listed. However...

Michael, Don't worry, Dragon is going to release a self propeled gun crew for panzer which looks good. From what I've heard, understood and read, Dragon will release a very few figure set this year. Do they want to make us the surprise ?? and release tons of figs ? I had the opportunity to see Zvezda 2007 catalog. Their figure range is really getting better and better, the russian sniper set being very detailled. But on the 2007 catalog, there is two set of moutain troops, german and societ, which seems REALY amazing (action poses as I never seen in Plastic before !!). Jim, don't you have any pics or info on them ? Best, Julien

I'm just hoping that DML and Trumpeter or CMK/Goffy will release some modern figures in 1/72 scale Ch

Hi Jim, I like what I see coming from Dragon so far, but I have a few questions. Since you know I do German and some tasty offerings on deck, does Dragon plan any new Pz ll's or lll's? Anything about some new night fighting Germans with the Vampyr or other late war oddities? Or, how about German softskins: Opel Blitz or Maultier, a Steyr RSO, Mercedes-Benz 4500A in plastic. I know this does not properly go here, BUT Dragon has me excited by their offerings and I guess I want to know if anything like what I mentioned is in the pipeline. Chris- I respectfully bow to your modelling knowledge

Yep - the problem is that Trumpeter is coming out with K18s in 1/35th scale and there is going to be nothing available as a prime mover. Personally speaking, DML should have made the Sd kfz 7 a a high-priority a year or two ago when they released the 88mm variants... Chris, I think it would be reasonable to expect a NEW program of PzIIIs this year as well. The PzII? Very likely as well IMO. The thing is that DML has a different release 'philosophy' than anyone else and do tend to announce new products without any hint being given.. Two predictions I will make for 2007 - firstly, it's going to be a great year for Soviet modellers. Secondly, whatever comes out will be surprising although I still doubt we need TWO Dicker Max in 1/35th
