Although the hobby appears to be dominated by the Far-Eastern manufacturers, there is still considerable energy being generated from Eastern Europe, which, although its may have seemed to have been overshadowed by Chinese manufacturers are still VERY much in business. A good example of this is Zvezda
Zvezda still maintain a very useful list of Figures and AFVs in 1/35th scale with a considerable number of subjects which are NOT (or unlikely to be) covered by other manufacturers.Their product range is clearly dominated by Russian subjects although they also do a fair amount of German WWII subjects as well....

Here, based on their new catalogue are what we can expect to see from Zvezda in the coming months:

Beginning with their 1/35th scale AFV Releases:

3539: KV-1 Soviet Heavy Tank

3617: BA-10 Soviet Armored Car

3588: German Sd Kfz 251/10 with 37mm AT Gun

In Figures, some truly unique subjects:

3598 - 'Vympel' Russian Antiterrorist Unit

3599 - German Gebirgsjaeger (Edelweiss Division)

3606 - Soviet Mountain Infantry WWII

3613 - German Sturmpioniere (WWII)

Two very interesting figure subjects. They will probably be value for money taking the number of figures in each set into account. It will be interesting to see if the quality has gone up for Zvezdas figures. Some of the recent releases have not been up to the DML or Tamiya standards. Who will be the first making a diorama with a mountain pass with Germans and Russians fighting each other.

Hi, The mountain troops, both german and russian, look terrific. Their poses are excellent, very dynamic. As far as details are concerned, I found Zvezda, with the Russian maxims mg pairs and the russian snipers did a really nice job for an unbeatable price (6€ in France !). The castnig may not be like GEN2, for sure, but the overall poses are quite original. The problem with zvezda is their kits are good 1 time out of 2. For example their german mortar team and halftrack crew were released in the same time that the maxim team. The later was good, the firsts awfull.. Their german snipers were released nearly in the same time that russian snipers. Russian are excellent, german are deformed. Is there a kind of revenge of Barbarosa invasion on behalf of Zvezda ? Anyway, it's possible the russian moutain troops will be ok unlike the gebirsjager But I still plan to buy them both ! Best, Julien

The BA-10 looks interesting, will look forward to seeing how that stacks up quality wise.
