The new model from IBG, to be released in October, is a Japanese Type 89 Kou. It represents the gasoline late production type.
The Kou, also known as Type 89A, was initially powered by a gasoline engine. Armed with a 57mm main gun plus two 6.5 mm machine guns, it became the main battle tank of the Japanese Army during the 30's.

The version pictured in this 72040 model kit (to be released in the first days of October) is a tank of latest gasoline production series. It's armed with a newer turret, both machine guns have armoured covers and the frontal armour plate is of the latest type - with the machine gun mount on the right and drivers hatch on the left. The tracks and drive system are of the later variant as well. This particular version was the most widely produced of all Type 89 variants, it served in all the theatres of war mentioned above.

The kit will include the two figures shown. Note that the photos are from a prototype model, using the plastic exhaust cover. A photo etch part will be included also.

This looks like a very nice kit of a very interesting subject. More Japanese armor!

I wish it was 1/35 but it could be good. Not much info about it though.

Oooooow ahhhhhhhh. Me like although not in 1/72. Looks like IBG's display model builder also had problems with IBG's modern day medieval torture device - their tracks!

Their website has another early variant listed in 1/72 as well. They seem to start a lot of things in 1/72 and then move up to 1/35. There could be hope.

FineMolds already makes a 1/35 Type 89. You just have to buy it under the "Girls Und Panzer" label.
