Yes, it was to try to keep out some of the heat. And I guess the blanket is thick enough to mold a piece for the hull based on Jim's picture. Hopefully!

I just got a confirmation from Panzer Art: the set includes EVERYTHING that is needed for a whole tank, i.e. hull blankets and gunner's sight cover too
