Close to a year from the release of its Afghan Rebels set, Trumpeter now makes available another interesting contemporary subject. Whilst no sprue shots are available, Trumpeter provides information on what to expect from this release.
Trumpeter’s African Freedom Fighters (00438) contains more than 60 injection molded parts laid over 5 sprues. The kit builds 6 figures. Weapons included are 12 AK-47 assault rifles and 1 RPG7.

It might be that I'm more than a little bit of a wiseacre, but how could they leave out this guy?

What an assumption that Africans should be poor, hungry and sloppy dressed. Have a look at the web and find out that most countries in Africa do show prosperity and a healthy population. Only a few do have severe problems, but even in unstable states the armed guys are well fed. How I know? By going there regularly, not only Ghana or Tanzania, but to most of the countries. But let's stop arguing about politics and return to modeling: a useful and promising set, which for sure turn up more often!

Think this a much needed kit and hope Trumpeter comes out with even more. Soon as I got my first one, ordered 2 more. Going for zombie/apocalypse survivors/zombie dioramas. Hope to modify the guy with the tan shirt/boonie hat so he looks a lot older....ex-Vietnam vet. The guy hunched over will be holding a box of food he got from a near by store while trying to avoid being seen by zombies. The other guy just standing there w/rifle in his hand will be doing guard duty while others are searching for supplies in a store. Not only do we need more modern non-white figures, but modern women of different races AND in combat gear. And how about teenagers/young kids, male & female?

They don't have to be African guerillas...give them Caucasian heads and a light skinned paint job for other contexts. Not being racist...just sayin'.

Great idea...something I hadn't thought of. And of course, I can always put their heads on another body.

Great idea, something I hadn't thought of. Now I've got a wider variety of civilians and put the cut off heads onto other figures.

I got my figures this morning and here are some pictures. What I have to say about it. There is something good and other not. The figure A seems much more 54mm instead of 1/35 I cannot understand so much difference in scale- We got six figures wich are wearing as shoes, 2 sneakers 1 soft boot and three between sandals thongs and slipper. Some details are soft and other are crisp. Some arms seems to be a little oversized and I will replace it so as for the heads wich are decent but for some of them I will use Warriors african heads or Hornet ones. Weapons are good detailed and they same level as Dragon or Masterbox ones At last a decent kit but Trumpeter must learn a lot from his competitor Masterbox.

Or tuck them into a post-apocalyptic scene from the early part of the breakdown, when it's still possible to loot for supplies. Ruined buildings, an ex-SWAT armored truck with 'POLICE' crudely sprayed over, and this crew.[/quote] This kit's been out for awhile, having 4 of them that I'll be using in zombie/apocalypse dioramas. Mentioned this else where, with someone suggesting replacing the heads with resin ones so I have a wider choice of looks. Some will be looters, others as survivors. For example, the guy hunched over will have a case of food while hiding behind something as zombies shuffle by. Detailing on figures is really nice w/option of separate hats, though you'll have to putty on a couple of them as part of their heads are missing because the hats going on the head. And how about 12 AK-47's? And of course, the rpg.
