Nearly every tank ever made was designed by committee. Some things are always so simple and others are like "What were they thinking??" This looks like a medium tank version of the engineering concepts that were in the Panzer I F and Panzer II L. So it was a real step in German design tank design history but one that wasn't pursued to production but existed in prototype. This appears to be a model of a plausible production version. Though if it had made it to production it probably would have been fitted with schurtzen.

This is supposedly what the VK3601 would have become if it had not been cancelled. Much of it ended up in the Tiger. David

It looks like a good build, but I'll wait until someone does an online review. If it does reasonably well in the review, and the price is reasonable, I'll probably get one.

I'll simply say that it -and the discussions surrounding it- will be very interesting. I personally built my Trumpeter VK3001 (H) without its turret as a prototype trials version. Same probably here if one ever really saw the light of day in any meaningful way. Looking forward to a build review.

In case you hadn't seen these, there are photos of the VK 30.01 (H) with its turret mounted. Don't think the 36.01 ever got its turret built though, just the hull.

Thank you Enrico, I never saw those photos before. Wonder where they came from. Looks like British officers in the summer of '45(?) evaluating a weird discovery they found in some corner. Can anyone authenticate these? As well, does anyone have any good close-ups of the weighed rings and mounts used to simulate the turret on the VK3001? I'd still like to build mine that way. Thanks.
