Without the tack, it will be a challenge to replicate the figures accurately. Still, it's a start.

I'm assuming these are draught horses looking at the accoutrements on the beasts themselves; if so, does that mean that if one buys around 5 sets, then one could then depict a towed 15cm howitzer (Dragon or Trumpeter to provide). Is it that simple? You may have deduced I'm no Wehrmacht artillery expert - and you'd be right, but I am becoming increasingly interested in the horse drawn equipment of the Wehrmacht; it's such a nice change from the eternally modelled mechanized stuff.

Brian, the challenge would be the gun carriage, as the kits in print are for mechanized artillery units, including pneumatic brakes (which are indispensable when pulling a heavy gun at speed). Don't know if Frenchie is around, but I'm sure he has photos that show the differences.

The initial thought came from a distant memory (around a million years ago) when I recall an advert in an ancient copy of Military Modelling magazine, which showed a 1:32 (I think) kit of a towed 15cm howitzer with what seemed like 10 or so horses. The manufacturer may have been Hinchcliffe, a firm which also produced 1:76 stuff, but I've never forgotten that image. It would be something else to try and reproduce that now in the more acceptable 1:35, but hey: I'm more than wrapped around the axle with Cold War stuff, but still...... Brian

Actually, the AFV Club kit of the leFH18 10.5cm Howitzer has options to be depicted in transport mode either by horse or half-track; the instructions have different steps depending on the transport option chosen. And since the leFH18 was in the beginning drawn mostly by horses as there we not enough half-tracks available ...

A quick Googling shows 3 sets should be enough, even for a sFh 18 15cm, as most pix show 6 horses. Some SEEM to show 8 but because of the angle, size, clarity, etc; it's difficult to say for sure. The leFH 18 also seems to have required 6, though I found one pic (only) that showed 4. As always, what the rule book said may not always have been adhered to in combat. In all pix though, there are only half the number of riders to horses, and always on the left side. Personally, I'd have rather they gave the full 6 horses and only 3 riders, but Riich are out of my price range anyway so it's a moot point.
