The New enthusiasts’ manual from Haynes inspects the universal armoured car: the Panhard AML and Eland
The Panhard AML and Eland is the latest modern armoured fighting vehicle to receive the Haynes treatment. The book is fully illustrated with archive images, technical drawings and detailed photography and includes rare insights into the recovery and restoration of a Panhard AML to running order by the French Army Re-enactment Group.

Speaking about the Panhard Armoured Car Enthusiasts’ Manual, author Simon Dustan says: “The AML has seen extensive combat in virtually all of the wars in Africa and the Middle East since 1961 including the war on ISIS in 2016. It also fought on the side of the Argentinians during the Falklands War in 1982.

“As an armoured car enthusiast, I was excited to finally give the Panhard AML and Eland the full Haynes treatment. Excitingly, the centrepiece of this manual is the French Army Re-enactment Group’s Panhard AML 60 and 90 vehicles, which have been fully restored to running condition.”

Ordered... it will be interesting to see what info is available about a dozen of the countries mentioned using the AML, since that I 'visited' them taking these vehicles to! Zaire especially since I spent about a year traveling in and out of there back in the late 70's.

John: There are aspects I really like and others that I am not so interested in, but I will say that I have never looked at a title from Haynes that I would not put on the shelf. I believe you will really like this offering.

Thanx Darren! Thanx for the "/review"! Anything pretty much written on the AML will usually end up in a pic file or on the book shelf. Probably the one vehicle I was most exposed to during my military career.

Is the longer hull on the South African Eland all in the back end because a different engine was installed? The back of the hull seems more vertical and has a slatted grill that protrudes out a bit. Or was the crew compartment portion lengthened? In Wikipedia, the Eland's hull was lengthened "because of taller South African crew". But looking at web site pictures, the only differences I see is at the back end of the hull and addition of a commanders cupola.

The aftermarket needs to jump in here and produce Eland conversion parts. FC Model Trend, Accurate Armor, et al, you listening??
