New Syrian Self-Propelled Howitzer from Rye Field Model
This curious conversion for the Syrian Army used a D-30 122mm howitzer and a T-34 (note that the gun points backwards!).

It should be available as a 1/35 kit from RFM next August.

That is really interesting! "next August" as in August 2020? Oh well, not really important .... need to build their Sheridan first / Robin

I have a feeling that the difference between "this August" and "next August" gets garbled or lost in translation.

You mean 'next' as in 'coming'? Those who "need" to have this right now will just have to "hold their breath" and hope for the best / Robin

Well, well...yet another kit that cancels out my scratch build of this vehicle! I'll probably get one anyway.

Well, rejoice for you took one for the team

When this was first announced on RFM's Facebook page last week (along with their re-announcement of the Sheridan kit we have been waiting for like a year now), I wrote something like "is this fake or real like Sheridan being released a few months ago?" I see that they deleted my comment. Maybe they are serious about releasing them next month. You know - Don't believe it until you see it.

Wow, what a great variant! This is the kind of subject matter that thrills me, and not "what-ifs" and "one-offs" (though I'm sure that the Syrians didn't build many of these) It's a tank chassis with a big gun -what's not to like?

If I recall my Syrian history of this vehicle, I think they built somewhere between 18 and 36 of them (I'm sticking with 36). Various sources conflict on this number. There are a few photos of mixed bogies as well. One photo shows a vehicle with solid WW2 style bogies with a single starfish bogie in the middle. Then yet another vehicle with all spider bogies with a single starfish bogie...once again in the middle. Of the most common photos (assuming at Latrun), yet another vehicle simply have all solid bogies. On the camo front, hazy photos show a single dark green color scheme as well as the possibility of a two, or maybe, a three tone camo scheme...but in b/w only. My conclusion...seems to be no uniformed pattern with this vehicle at all. Operational info can be found here: LINK I'm sure once this kit hits our grubby little hands, more photos of this vehicle will miraculously appear. They always do!
