Load Up that Armor - Latest from Black Dog

The Czech manufacturer, Black Dog, have just sent us details of some mouth-watering releases in 1/35th & 1/72nd scale.

Black Dog began by specializing in 1/48th scale - at a level of detail rarely seen outside the larger scales. Now though, they are expanding their range to include the more popular 1/35th and 1/72nd scales.

Of all the new releases here, the most interesting is perhaps the replacement wheel set for the Staghound I - there again, that's just personal prejudice!

1/72nd Scale:

1/35th Scale:

35002 - Kubelwagen

35003 - Sd.kfz. 222223

35004 - Semovente

35005 - Carro armato

35006 Staghound big set (includes 35007 & 35008)

35007 - Staghound Stowage

35008 - Staghound snowchained wheeels

All the update parts are moulded in resin.

For the most part, I really like their stowage items. But, for example, the stowage on the back of the 222 doesn't have any ropes to hold it down. You have helmets and ammo pouches just laying there without anything to hold them down. Is that normal, or does the modeller have to add additional ropes around the bulk of the stowage? Hisham

As Hisham points out, not perfect but a welcome addition! I have hoped BD would move up to 1/35th!

I agree with Hisham. I'm don't specialist on WW2 stowage but I see many tarpaulins and blankets but very little bags, rucksack, gas mask, and next equipment. I think that vehicles have many stowage. For that isn't use turret. All looks nice but maybe is very much for one vehicle Miloslav

So if you don't like it all, don't use it all! Virtually all resin sets come with too much stowage. And Hisham, as for the ropes, its not too difficult for an average modeler (read: me) to add ropes on.

Yes, this is easy but I think that rear heap is one part.

I realise that it's not too difficult to add ropes. But, normally if you tie a rope around "soft" material, like tarps and backpacks, the rope would make a "dent" in the tarp or backpack. So, if you add the rope.. the tarp will look like it's solid. That's why I was saying that if the rope is moulded in then it will have a more natural look... that's all. Hisham

I agree with Hisham. The straps or ropes should be included because it looks unreal to use or add them to the resin conglomerate. The load looks fantastic but I prefer to have the ropes or whatever molded in.
