introduction

This set from PlusModel is another recent addition to their diorama accessories range, and will make happy the modelers who like to load their work with more or less stowage and other tiny bits. Also it might be handy for any scene picturing a meal, a kitchen or a shop/market.

review

PlusModel’s PET bottles set contains bottles of four different styles, 32 in total, made of clear plastic except for eight which are green but still opaque. The layout is very good, each of the bottles has only one attachment point to deal with – although the plastic is very hard. Also there is a small tip of plastic on each cap but removing these is easy and makes no harm to the clear plastic as this part should be painted in color. Fortunately there are no mold lines or imperfections present on the bottles (except for one out of 32) as cleaning up these would be quite difficult given the characteristics of clear plastic parts in general. The dimensions and shapes look OK, but some of the caps are a bit oversized for me while others are too thin.

The decals give us the possibility to represent the following four brands – without copyrights so the names are intentionally misprinted: ”Pepis Cola”, ”Coca-Cila”, ”Netsea” (this is for Nestea iced tea) and Crystal Water (this one seems to be PlusModel’s own invention as I was unable to find any references on the internet). Instructions are very basic – there is no need for more –, a drawing shows us how the decals and the bottles should be paired up and although they do not mention the colors for the caps, it is quite easy to find the right ones.

The only tiny issue with this set – and with any other clear bottle sets – is that we cannot ”fill” them realistically as we are able to paint the surface only, thus leaving a kind of emptiness in the inside. But this is visible from a top angle only, especially when we do not fill the bottles until their neck.

conclusion

This PlusModel set is a nice addition to any diorama setting or stowage and is very easy to prepare. It might be a little too expensive comparing to other offerings but we should not forget that in this case we receive 32 bottles in total – and not only water – with the decals included.
