Railroad Poles and Lamps

Introduction

This set of railroad power poles and lamps is perfectly suitable for an urban diorama featuring railway stations, tramlines or industrial areas. The poles depict metal power poles with lamps attached (hence the urban setting), and would go with most mid-20th century European setting.

Review

The set contains two poles, 24,7cm long without the lamp fixtures, and 25.9cm long with the lamps added; quite tall part for any diorama. The detail is excellent, although some parts (the cable holding rods -Da5-7) are very thin and will require considerable care to remove from the sprue.

There are clear sprues included for the transparent lamp lenses and light bulbs (pretty cool detail). The tension cable holding the weight that keeps the power cable taut is given as a piece of thread. Since cotton yarn always has tiny fibers sticking out, it will most likely not look like a steel cable. It also lacks the inherent stiffness of a metal cable, so it would probably best to substitute it with a piece of picture hanging wire. There is no power cable provided.

There’s really not much to say about the kit: it is reasonably easy to build (except for a few delicate pieces already mentioned), and it certainly helps to “populate” an urban diorama: it can be depicted standing, with the cables cut, or as part of a pile of rubble.
SUMMARY
Highs: nice addition to a diorama; usable in wide geographical and time settings.
Lows: no lows.
Verdict: recommended.

These reviews are written from the point of view of an average model builder; hence the focus is on quality of the model, how easy it is to...

These are GREAT and came as such a relief to yours truly who no longer has to consider scratch-building the F3@&&% things for my railroad dio!

Yes, that's what I was thinking, too- everyday, mundane objects you can't find in 1/35... awesome stuff.
