Introduction

The equipment system «Ratnik» («The warrior») is a set of uniforms and regimentals for Russian soldiers, also referred to as «The future infantry combat system». This system of equipment began to enter service with Russian army in early 2015, first of all it was supplied to special purpose units and marine corps. Currently, «Ratnik» is widely used in the military, every year Russian Armed Forces receive about 50 thousand sets. There are two options of color performance of equipment – for a wooded and for desert areas. Desert color option is actively used during military operations in Syrian Arab Republic.

Overview

This figure, like all the kits manufactured by Live Resin, is packed in a small cardboard box. The box contains 3D images showing the general view of the assembled figure from different angles. After opening the box, we can see a bag with resin parts, additionally packed with a protective air film. The set consists of seven sprues with 19 parts made of gray resin, which can be easily separated from the sprues.

The kit contains the following parts:
- Torso
- Legs
- Helmet
- Gun belt, right and left hands
- AK-74M assault rifle
- A set of 7 pouches, a flashlight and a radio station
- A pair of combat boots and a head

The three-dimensional model with which the 'master' was printed to replicate the figure was created using 3D scanning of a real person in the appropriate equipment. This made it possible to provide the correct anatomical proportions of the figure, as well as to make realistic folds on clothing and equipment, taking into account their various positions. The resin parts are molded qualitatively, the edges are clear, there are no bubbles or weights.

Details

The figure represents a standing soldier of the Russian Armed forces, dressed in elements of modern equipment «Ratnik» («The warrior»). The AK-74M assault rifle hangs on a weapon sling draped around the neck, while the soldier presses his hands against the pouches on his chest. The edges of the clad hood are visible under the helmet, and the face is hidden by a balaclava. Such a figure will look great next to or on a model of a military vehicle. The following equipment is shown on the figure: helmet 6B47, body armor 6B45, joint protection 6B51, jacket and trousers from a double-sided camouflage set 6Sh122, as well as a vest base 6Sh117.

The set in option «The rifleman» includes two (right and left) pouches for two magazines to AK-74 and one ROP/RSP or bayonet-knife; two pouches for two magazines for AK-74; two grenade pouches; special knife 6E6 “Rosa” (“Dew”) in the pouch; two universal pouch and first aid kit AI-3-1VS. At the same time, in the pouches for automatic magazines you can see the Reactive Lighting (ROP) or Signal Cartridges (RSP) inserted in their places. The radio station R-187P1 “Azart” («Ardor») in the pouch is proposed to be fixed on the left side of the chest, and the universal pouch and knife 6E6 on the right. Flashlight 6E2 is mounted on the left side of the helmet. 6B45 body armour naturally fits the body, demonstrating its weight. On slings of the PALS ammunition fastening system there are no pre-marked fastening points, which allows you to independently choose the location of the pouches in accordance with the prototypes. The equipment clearly shows the folds and irregularities, there are all the necessary fasteners and eyelets in the pouches, and a mesh is made on a vest basis.

Assembly

The seams at the joints between the individual parts are almost invisible, although on this figure I tried to make undercuts on the lower edge of the jacket and in the end I needed putty.

There is no assembly instruction, but the layout of the elements is clearly visible on 3D images. Before assembly, you can pre-place the equipment on the figure, using the Patafix or Blu Tack glue pads for temporary fastening. The location of the pouches and equipment on the figure is logical and is confirmed by photographs of real military personnel.

Fingers in shortened gloves are thin and have a clear separation.

On the sprue with AK-74M there is a slight flash. The assault rifle can be inserted between the hands and pouches after assembly and painting the figures. At the same time, the part of the weapon belt from the left shoulder to the forearm turned out to be quite thin and openwork. Unfortunately, the manufacturer missed the part of the belt that goes from the right armpit to the assault rifle but stock and the modeller will need to make it yourself.

Conclusion

This is the next set of a series of figures of the Armed Forces of Russia from the company 'Live Resin' in modern outfit “Ratnik”. It can be used both independently and as a supplement for any model of military vehicle in a wide variety of environmental conditions. Assembly does not cause difficulties.

Comments

Both of these figures are -as expected- really nice with enviable attention to detail and I shudder at the amount of fiddly bits that you'd have to paint. Wonder why the helmet is that size; could it be for built-in comm gear?
