Introduction There is still a lack of civilian figures in 1/35 scale and whenever I come across one I pick it up so when I saw that HLJ had this offering from MIG in stock I added it to my latest order. I may be mistaken but I think this was originally released as a modern figure and his red cap looks very modern. Although he does look “ready to rumble” he is not limited to use as a hooligan or indeed as a Russian.
ReviewThe figure comes in a strong blister pack with a colour illustration of the figure’s front and back.
The kit depicts a man in civilian clothes standing in a squared off pose with his hands in his pockets. He wears a cloth cap and an open jacket over a sweater with a scarf loosely wound around the neck. His trousers are tucked into turned down leather boots.
The figure is cast in a pale cream colored resin and comes in just two pieces; the body and head. The casting is excellent especially the detail around the pockets. There was an air bubble on the back of the head in my kit on the cap but this is easily filled so I didn’t bother with getting a replacement. There is a seam line between the figures legs that will have to be cleaned up or filled. The casting plugs are on the bottom of the feet and should be easily removed with a sharp razor saw. The pose of the figure is very natural and I like the “You wanna piece of me?” look on his face. The illustration depicts him with a red cap which I’m not sure is appropriate for WW2.
As he is he could represent a civilian, a partisan, or even one of the civilian militia mobilized during the invasion of Russia. In fact with careful painting this figure could fit into any scenario from the turn of the 20th century right up to the present day. The really good thing about him though, is his conversion potential. With a change of head and the judicious use of putty he could be turned to anything from a sailor to a GI wearing HBTs or even a Tanker wearing a leather jacket.
Conclusion A very good resin civilian figure with lots of potential for conversion.
