introduction

Part of Model Scene's Low-Rise Plants series, Low Weed is 5 sheets of laser cut paper plants, and painting is not necessary.

Weeds are everywhere! Choking your garden, tangling your path, camouflaging your troops and equipment...now on your dioramas! Cut from paper, these realistic generic weeds look great in dioramas. Most of the Low-Rise Plants series are available in three scales:
1:32 / 1:35
1:45 / 1:48
1:72 / 1:87

the weeds

Low weed (Niedriges Unkraut):
These weeds are packed in a small, hard plastic box. Though the website advertises five sheets per box, I had six in mine. Each sheet contains a cluster of six plants, and two single plants. They are beautifully cut. Each plant has a subtle unique pattern due to being printed on paper that is not uniform in finish.

Though these are weeds, they can simulate tree and shrub leaves, too. Spread them upon the diorama ground, mimic leaves falling on vehicles, or for the adventurous, glue them to branches!

To demonstrate the appearance of this product, they are providing cover to a 1/35 light anti-tank gun, and a few are shown fallen on a 1/35 armored car.

Preparation:
The weeds are paper so you do not have to worry about slicing open a finger on sharp photo-etch. The stems are attached to the sheet at three points, the stem, the top leaf, and a side leaf. I cut them away with an X-acto blade. It took me less than six minutes per sheet. I found the best way to detach the clump was to cut through the attachment point, then cut away large outlying portions of the paper.

Use caution! These are delicate. Until I figured out the best way to cut these, several leaves and some stems broke off from the main weed. Ah, individual leaves look good, too!

It would be no problem to customize these weeds. Use a colored pencil or flick some paint on them to show rot, bug bites, or withering.

For delicate paper, I had no problem with more leaves tearing off while rolling and creasing these plants to fit on the model.

conclusion

I am glad that Model Scenes' large and "growing" product range includes this product. No need to seed a weed with non-specific kitchen herbs. These quality weeds will enrich any diorama. Recommended!

These look good. I have good experiernces with Kamizikuri paper plants before. These are precolored which is a great idea.

Sorry, but these look WAY out of scale to me. Weeds usually have ragid sharp edges, not scalloped with borders.

Thanks for the review Fred I agree with Dave that they look out of scale, at least when placed with something else, like the pic with the tank. As all sheets are already exactly the same, i am wondering why they did not at least model the branches on one plant slightly different from one another. Claude
