Techmod from Poland have recently released two sets of decals dedicated to the Japanese fighter A6M2 Zero. A set no. 48095 in the 1:48 scale can be found in other reviews of Techmod decals. In this review we will take a look at the set in 1:72 scale.

The markings

In the set we can find four painting schemes. Three schemes, out of four, represents the machines which took part in the attack on the Pearl Harbour on 7th December 1941. In this choice we can also find two planes of the famous pilot Tetsuzo Iwamoto. Here is the detailed list:

1. A6M2b model 21, manufactured by Nakajima. Pilot Tetsuzo Iwamoto, Oppama Kokutai, Oppama air base, Japan, February 1943
2. A6M2 model 21, manufactured by Mitsubishi, Pilot Tetsuzo Iwamoto, Carrier Zuikaku, attack on Pearl Harbour, 7th December 1941
3. A6M2 model 21, manufactured by Mitsubishi, Pilot Tsugio Matsuyama, Carrier Hiryu, attack on Pearl Harbour, 7th December 1941
4. A6M2 model 21, manufactured by Mitsubishi, Pilot Lt. Sumio Nono, Carrier Hiryu, attack on Pearl Harbour, 7th December 1941

Each plane is painted in the same pattern: all surfaces in the IJN Grey with the black engine nacelle. The only difference are the numbers and colours of the bands around the fuselage and the individual numbers of the machines. Suggested colours are given as the Federal Standard numbers except crucial IJN Grey which has no particular number it has to be the modeler decision achieve the proper colour.

Each painting scheme is reproduced on four side views showing the positions of the markings. There is also a page with the location of the stencils which are common for all schemes. Stencils diagrams are printed on the separate sheet with the enlarged drawings in comparison to the painting diagrams. Pictures also shows us the positions of the placards on the landing gear and propeller blades. Some of the stencils are given in two variants depending on the producer of the particular plane: Mitsubishi or Nakajima.

The decal sheet
The decal sheet itself has the size of 9x13cm. Number of decals allows us to choose one plane out of all four. Quality is typical for the latest sets from Techmod: very good. Thin and very subtle carrier film, bright colours, sharp edges and absolutely no misalignment. The practice of their use shows us there is also no problem with their adhere to the surface, of course when you place them on the very smooth surfaces (preferably covered with Future or gloss lacquer).

Conclusion
The set is a comprehensive upgrade to your Zero model if the producer painting schemes do not satisfy you with the quality or the choice of machines. With these decals you can fully decal your model.

Special thanks to Techmod for providing the review sample.
