Introduction

PlusModel have expanded their easy line of resin accessories with a new set, EL057, Antitank grenades.

This simple accessory set comes in a small clear pouch with a cardboard backer to provide protection for the parts and consists of five each of the HHL-3 H.E.A.T magnetic anti tank grenade and the M24 stick grenade antitank bundle. Each of the grenades is molded singly on a small resin block-the M24 stick grenades are molded at the bottom of the grenade clusters and the HHL-3 grenades are molded at the tip of the handle to preserve the concave center of the charge.

Review

The stick grenades are relatively easy to remove from the resin block and will require careful clean-up of the attachment points and surrounding grenade heads. Absent from the kit (or at least my sample) is anything to provide for the retaining strap or wire used to hold the surrounding grenades to the core piece. This can be sourced from scrap wire, thin metal foil or even paper.

The magnetic grenades can also be easily removed from the block, but I advise cleaning up the rather heavy mold seams on these before removing the block so you can use it to hold on to. The magnetic tips are very fragile and will bend in at the slightest pressure. Present on these are the small screws that hold the magnetic tips in place, but the magnets themselves are solid, where the actual grenade has a cut out appearance due to the magnetic bars being attached to a center block. For the scale, it is a reasonable sacrifice in detail.

No paint guide is provided so the modeler is left to their own to research the appropriate color. Dark grey was the standard color of such munitions, at least as far as I have been able to find, but online reference photos, most from reproductions, show a wide variety of colors. Also lacking are the decals for the stick grenade, though I don't know how well they could show being wrapped around.

Overall, I think this is a nice accessory to accompany figures or be placed in a diorama setting.
SUMMARY
Highs: Simple accessory that with little work will be ready to use.
Lows: Heavy seam lines on the magnetic grenades will require careful cleanup.
Verdict: This is another nice accessory set from PlusModel.

I got back into the hobby a few years back, and wanted to find ways to improve, which is how I found this site. Since joining Armorama I have improved tremendously by learning from others here, and have actually finished a couple of kits. I model to relax and have fun, but always look to improve. ...
