Irish Model Soldier Society 2012
The Irish Model Soldier Society’s annual show is most commonly held in mid-May and is the showcase for both society members and non-members alike. This year (and for many previous years) the show was staged in the picturesque surroundings of Dublin Castle in the heart of Dublin, more specifically in the Coach House venue which opens on to a beautiful circular lawn that is perfect for the various enactment groups who are usually present and if the weather is good, the location is a real sun-trap.
The annual show is one of the largest in Ireland and attracts modellers country-wide as well as roping in modellers from Europe and even further afield. This year the show took place over the 12th and 13th of May.
Modellers can compete in any of 17 categories/classes including ‘An Corsantir’ (The Irish Soldier in National Service), the Celtic Cup (Irish Soldier in Foreign Service), the Connoisseur Cup (54mm Figures), The Vignette Trophy, The Firbolg Cup (Groups and Dioramas), The Da Vinci AFV Trophy and The Aviation Trophy among others.
Prizes for each category/class comprise ‘Commended’, ‘Highly Commended’, Bronze, Silver and Gold. There are also several awards given in conjunction with foreign modelling clubs including from Malmo and the USA, the Presidents Cup (the IMSS President’s personal choice) Best of Show award. This year there was also an award presented by the Irish Air Corps to commemorate their 90th Anniversary.
