Hi everybody!

Would you be interested in diorama campaign showing airborne forces all around the world from WWII up to today? I was thinking about diorama (not figures/armor/AFV) because it would allow us showing figures with any used equipment and vehicles (even glides) that has been used by these forces in any situation.
German Fallschirmjäger, US Airborne Divisions, Polish Cichociemni, S.A.S. etc… Paratroopers were present on almost every front of WWII and they are still used as quickly reacting forces during almost every conflict.
Proposed time period: 01 November ’08 – 30 March ’09 .

What do you think?

Andrzej

Even before I saw this proposal, I had a diorama idea formulating in my head. I have recently been to Pegasus Bridge in Normandy and want to base a diorama on the airborne forces there.

I'm in.

Great idea!
I've forgot to mention - planes are mostly welcome on dioramas! Airborne without a plane would be simply infantry .

We have 8 people interested so far - two more and we're ready to go!

hello Andrzej,
i have permission to join this campaign.
i do have some questions about it: is there a time line for the campaign ie:WW2 only?
if not is Air Cav allowed, most of the members are dual rated Airborne and Air Cav.a neat dio would be a Sheridan M-551 with 3 or 4 Air Cav guys with it in Vietnam with a Huey coming in for a landing.
if there is no timeline how about the air drop in korea or the SAS in the far east in the late 40's and 50's,are these allowed?
are SEAL's allowed?
i am going to do one on the early part of WW2.
thanks for letting me know about this campaign.
cheers,
Bruce

Hi all,

Dragon has a set of the first fallschirmjager division in Holland 1940. When I first saw this kit, a small dio / vignette idea already popped up in my mind. So with this set I would like to join in! Starting date is fine, have some stuff that needs to be finished.

@ Bruce
Nice to see that your permission has been granted!
Here are answers to your (and probably also other people's) questions:
This campaign is not only WW2. I wanted to show airborne actions from WW2 to today (Vietnam, Iraq etc.).
Air Cavalry are not exactly paratroopers but yes, I think that they classify as airborne (basic idea is the same - they quickly move where they are needed, fall from the sky and do their job ).
Idea of using M-551 tank is great - even the tank may be airborne here .
SAS, Vozdushno-Desantnye Vojska, Cichociemni, US Airborne divisions are welcome.
SEALs, GROM and other special forces are welcome too but under condition that diorama will show them fighting as an airborne, not as water-delivered .
So the basic idea is to show brave guys who have enough guts to jump with parachute, fly in a glide, jump from helicopter, and who are supposed to be surrounded .

We already have enough people to propose the campaign so I'm going to do it immediately.

Andrzej

I've just submitted this campaign proposal for approval.
Here are conditions I've proposed:
This campaign is focused on airborne forces - from fronts of WWII to operations in Iraq.
Every time when quick reaction and element of surprise is needed they move into the action: brave man that fall from the sky on parachutes, land in gliders or jump from flying helicopters - soldiers that are supposed to be surrounded.
1. This is diorama campaign – vignette/diorama is required to finish this campaign
2. Any nationality, any time period is allowed
3. Diorama has to show soldiers considered as airborne (US Airborne, SAS, Fallschirmjäger, Cichociemni, Vozdushno-Desantnye Vojska, Air Cavalry etc.)
4. Special forces like Navy SEALs or GROM are allowed under condition that presented operation included airborne troops (not delivered to field of operation by water or ground transports).
5. Vehicles, gliders, planes and helicopters are allowed and welcome but they have to be assisted by airborne troopers.
6. All work must begin and be completed within the active period.
7. At least one picture of finished diorama has to be submitted to campaign's gallery or on the forum to complete campaign.

I hope they're clear.

Andrzej

Hi all,

Just back from my holiday in Normandy....visited Pegasus bridge...been to 'Dead mans' corner' (former 6th Fallschirmjäger HQ and aid station near Carentan)....last year visited Crete.....and living in the Netherlands where the most famous airborne operation of all took place

Yes I do see some possibilities for this campaign Got little time though so I'll stick to a simple figure vignette if that's allowed!

I've invited Aeroscale modelers to join us in this one.
Right now Steffen Arndt is building something that would perfectly fit this campaign, unfortunately for us he has already started and will not join us in group build... You can see his build HERE.

I've made a ribbon - hope you like it (this is big version).

I have also some ideas for banners but I'm at work right now and I don't have my favourit software to prepare the banners the way I like.

Great one Andy!

In what scale you are planning to build? Even in 1/72 it will need quite big diorama .

I'm thinking about JU-52 with some Fallschirmjäger just before going on board, but I cannot find any 52 in '35 scale... . If I get one in '32 scale I make a cut-out: scale difference will not be so visible then...

Digging through my stash I found a Tetrarch that I can use. Was planning on an Arnhem Diorama, had all the paratroops but needed the jeeps conversions. Can’t afford them now so this would be a perfect chance to use them
I know they weren’t at Pegasus Bridge but were dropped near the River Orne.
Just have to plan something up.
I’m in, thanks for the campaign,
Bob

I know they should be silver but we're not in US Airborne
I thought that wings and parachute would look better in gold when placed on a blue background.
Today I want to prepare some banners (if only my son gives me 30 minutes ).
