Nice job, Chas! That is without a doubt the best palm tree I have ever seen. It makes me want to build another Pacific dio!

An excellent tutorial, thank you very much. I'm a little slow at times, Chas. Can you tell me how you attach the palms to the trunk...do you glue them in place, or use a different method? I'm thinking its white glued in place, but I'm not sure.
Thanks again for the tutorial. This is the best I've seen for making palm trees.

Cheers,
Mike

No worries Mike. That's right, the palms were glued in place with a cheap 'wood glue', same as white glue I think. I didn't use superglue or a plastics glue as I could imagine it would eat into the natural material, and my work would slowly erode away!

Again I am very glad to help, it was a fun project to work on.

Thanks Robert.

The fronds looks the same as they did four months ago when I began the tutorial. The paint seals the leaves which are naturally waxy.

Thanks for your feedback,

Chas

Thanks a lot about palm trees' construction. I'm actually working on French Foreign Legion vs Bedouins (late XIX century)and you help me a lot for my next oasis.

Chas, you did some super work with this. I think I just might have to borrow it from you for a future project.

Since you used a bamboo skewer for your trunk armature, what is the scale - 1/72?

Thanks Armorama for leaving this thread! And thanks Chas for the handy way to make a palm tree! This is exactly what I needed to see!

Some palms also shed fronds so you could do one in a very deal looking pale yellow hanging from the trunk as well as having a few on the ground. These can be pretty painful if it falls and hits you on the head!

Also, the trimmings can be used as ground cover under the trees.

Thanks again, Chas! Great tutorial!

One little trick to getting the string to hold in place... dip it 50/50 glue water... stays right where you want it!
