Hi everyone,
When I was in Iraq in 07. I was stationed up on the north end of the DRV the FOB we were at had a tank boneyard, we saw this highly modified T-55 with what I think is a type 56 Chinese or M-46 Russian 130mm artillery piece. My question is this I have a T-55 doner model for the hull is there anyone who makes the gun? I know Alanger used to make a 100mm but I'd rather use the 130mm. Thanks

Maybe if you hosted the pictures on a site like photobucket and sent us the link? It would be really helpful because it is almost impossible to find good photos of this beast. Thank you in advance,

try this site for hosting pictures.

click on the BROWSE button to select the pic .....then
click on the UPLOAD button to send it to TINYPIC
The next screen you see will list a number of addresses for the photo- the one you want is the IMG CODE FOR FORUMS AND MESSAGE BOARDS
and insert it into your post and Voila!

I really hate to necro this thread, but dhasset, i'm writing an article for Tanks Encyclopedia, and i'm very interested in this vehicle.
Perhaps you can tell me more about your time in Iraq? Exactly where you found it, if you have more photos, etc?
It's a very mysterious tank, as i'm sure you know, and i'm trying to gather as much information as possible on it.

Trumpeter has the 130mm artillery piece in 1/35 scale (which is the base for this vehicle), and already in my stash specifically for this build. The ungainly, and square, crew 'compartment' certainly brings this vehicle to the forefront of yet another 'back shop' modification of the T55 series.

I have seen a couple of pictures of something almost similar to this in Sudan also using the T-55 but also still using it's turret and I believe a D-20.

I'm actually building a T-62 based version of that right now.
DH's photos were the inspiration.
Mine's a little more like the Cuban BMP w/ rear gun placement tho.

Where, exactly, were the photos of it taken?
According to Dhasset, who was stationed in Iraq in 2007, the tank was found in a tank graveyard at near his Forward Operating Base at Diyala river valley. According to one source, this is possibly the Abu Sayda vehicle graveyard.
I'd like to know a little more.
Also, has nobody noticed the Iranian markings on the thing? You can see that it's Persian markings. There's an Iranian Alvis Scorpion, too, in the background. I've seen another Scorpion (possibly at the same place) with a very similar (if not the same) unit marking, too.
That leads me to believe that it's an Iranian conversion from the Iran-Iraq War. It's rusty enough to date from then.
Thoughts?

The markings on this vehicle is quite interesting and obviously hand painted. With Tamiya's T55 and Trumpy's 130mm, and some good 'ol fashioned scratch building, this will make one helleva model!

I believe the gun is more similar to the Type-59 130mm gun. Trumpeter do a model of this. Anyone have any more pictures - would love to have a go at this but need a few more detail pics.
