Ahhh. I though one of the names was kinda familiar!

Good luck with the book - even though it isn't my area it DOES look really good...

I hope the picture of the cover for the Desert Storm book is just a mock up. It shows a M1A1 from 1/4 CAV around 2005.

I was going to say exactly the same thing! A few of the pics inside the OIF book also look like images published multiple times elsewhere, would of preferred some newer unseen shots. Guess we will have to wait and see when the books released.

Yes, the DS cover is just a mock up...Ive already talked to the Editor about that issue and that the subjects (M1A1, M113, and M60) are not just US Army, but the M60 is USMC.

dont worry...we will get it right. And both Ryan and I are open to any constructive comments..this is just our first one. Im sure there will be a learning curve!
thanks

My bad. I should have made it clear that the other two book covers WERE mock-ups. However, it was only done to show that the FIRST book wasn't some kind of isolated release and that it was in fact the first in a SERIES..

Looks very good Andy and a novel approach combining real-world and modeling photos.

Roughly how many pages are in the book?

Thanks,
Sean

Looks good. The combination between real world references and build articles seem promising.
I fear too little real world references and too much building, but time will tell. After all this is very much depending on ones taste.

Thanks for the update.

Gents, the image for the ODS one has been updated. That should be a bit more to your liking!

Thanks for the comments everybody. We will have a booth at AMPS if interested (and you can see the models in the flesh!)

Thanks Ryan & Andy
at 128 pages it's big enough. I was afraid it would be 30 or 40 page magazine style. Order placed and can I wish you both good luck with it.

If I were you however I would suggest to SAM to put a bit more detail on the site such as number of pages and some sample pages.

Cheers,
Sean

Ill mention it to the editor. They may not have updated the listing yet, as what you see on thier has been up for several months now (since Jan at least).

I am really looking forward to seeing this one Andy & Ryan, and will be doing my first 'modern' build (Stryker) with this as my guide. Echoing the sentiments above, best of luck with this one and the future releases.

My copy arrived in the post yesterday and I just want to say: what a great book!
The 3 vehicles are covered (Abrams, Bradley & Stryker) but each has 3 sections: the vehicle in action, close up walk-around and a build log using a base kit, multipl AM sets and some scratch-building. Eack of the 3x3 sections has loads of good quality photos and commentry. At the end there is an appendix listing all model kits and AM sets (including decals) available currently on the market.

Top marks Gents!

These look real interesting, do you plan to do anymore in the series? For example Modern UK armour or Modern Russian?

I sometimes wonder why we bother.

SAM publications were good enough to also send us mock-up covers of the NEXT books in the series. Now, unless my mind is playing tricks, i'm almost convinced that they were included in the News Report?

For all the free stuff you get of course!

And I agree with Jamal: one on Humvee's and MRAPs and the M1117

Sean,
Thanks for the mini reivew and compliments!

Jon,
Keep the ideas coming...I would love to do the UK and Russian stuff. Andy and I look forward to building the series to cover a broad range of subjects.

Jamal,
Thanks for your purchase and support, a book on Humvee's would be fun and would offer a lot of build options. A book of this type on Trucks, transporters, and other prime movers would be cool as well.

Just a reminder, the actual models built for this book can be seen at the AMPS convention coming up next week for those interested.

Cheers,
Ryan Harden

Andy and Ryan,

I got a copy today from Sprue Brothers. I have to say great job!!

I think you guys have a home run with the format/layout of the book. I love the combination of photo's of the real vehicles coupled with the build photo's and the walk around photo's.

The work displayed on all the kits is incredible. You guys didn't take any shortcuts. Truly professional work and presentation.

I dont know if its too late for future publication, but they have one of the M1 Abrams pictures mis-labeled. The picture shows the commanders M2 .50 cal but the book has it labled as an M240 coax.

Again, excellent work and an absolute first rate publication. You guys should be proud.
