I would say that looks pretty effective. It doesn't seem too difficult or complex either. Thanks for the tip!

Looks like a fairly straight forward solution to the problem, well done.

My question is, are the details that much better on the HB Merk than the Academy one to warrant this, or is this just a case of "I had in the stash so why not"

cheers

I think what you have done looks good but, the fix used here looks to have the same or similiar results with less work.

For the price they are asking I think the company should fix it.

Seriously, I agree with you. For a kit that is $60+, HB needs to fix it and re-release it. Or we'll just wait for the corrected LIC version.

Both sides need to move forward. The housings for the first roadwheel bearings reach into the lower glacis. Look here

The Hobby Boss kit has many more errors, hereīs the the list from Michael Mass from the idf-in-scale.com forum:

Quoted Text

Strong points:
1. Nice texture of anti slip on turret and hull.
2. Belly armor + connectors.
3. Different road wheels.
4. PE parts.

Known weak points:
1. Wrong positioning of the road wheels arms.
2. Wrong diviation in belly armor .
3. 6 holes instead of 5 in the sprocket carrier outer part.
4. Vynil road wheels "rubber".

New weak points:
1. Too thick parts (could be solved by PE).
2. Wrong number of rods in rear side skirt (should be 5-6 in early, 3 in late)
3. Wrong detailing of hinges in front fenders and side consoles.
4. Wrong positioning of rotating "trolley" in commanders MG mount.
5. Mortar access on the roof is too small and not located properly.
6. Kit is missing most of protecting mesh, on sights, lights etc..

Iīd like to add some strange raised lines on the engine deck- they are not there, itīs just an optical illusion. They are the edges of panels that are not covered with anti-slip look here

IMO, this kit looks beautiful in box, but it has so many flaws that itīs not worth the price asked for. Hobby Boss should completely reengineer the kit and release it as a revised edition, so that everybody knows, which is the corrected kit.

Thanks for lots of comments
I think HB Merkava4 is expensive too.
and have many errors.

the reason of this complex way,
HB's leftside spacing between roadwheel#6 to idlerwheel is too wide.

and, HB have more error.
HB's lowerhull sidepanel is perpendicular to the ground
this error is hard to fix

Looking at some photos I'm not sure I agree, and if there is too much space between the idler and the last roadwheel, then to me it's not that evident.

Again, if this is the case, I doubt anyone would notice this.

Sure, but many of us will be bothered the heck out of it, just knowing that error is there and will keep looking at it. Ha ha ha! Accuracy obsession I tell ya.

Thanks for the tip Takahashi regardless.

Man that's a lot of fixies for a high priced kit. One would thing if Hobbyboss were going to come out with a kit at that high price, the would have had the chassis spot on. Any way they should take note of your fixies and re-issues this kit in a correct way!

Hi Guys,
Thought I would drop in to say a few words. I have been reading the posts on various websites re the numerous errors in the Hobby boss Merkava kit and basicaly I agree with everything thats said.
I have actualy bought the Academy Merkava LIC recently released and based on all the info I have seen to compare, it is a "bloody good kit".
It is very close to acurate
It does not require the annoying fix of the suspension
the non slip texture is pretty good
The etched brass is not bad but is missing the rear turret basket lining as in the older kit and the toga plates for the crew rear hull baskets
it still has the annoying photo etched chain to attach the small cut from sprue balls but that in my experience is easy to replace
But the biggest draw cards are the price which is cosiderably less than Hobby Boss and the peace of mind in knowing you can if you wish build it out of the box without any drama or have a good base kit to go the whole hog on
Regards,
Don Jamieson

As I do most of the ordering of plastic models for two HobbyTown USA stores here in Columbia SC. I have no intention of putting this one on the shelves to 'sit'.

A pricey kit and as stated far to much needed to make it accurate. Even a mid range modeler will not be happy to part with that much money and then spend time correcting the basics....

Surely they (the company) are going to sort this out.

I'm quite intersted in a good Merkava kit, although I won't buy now 'cause my stash is too full

Anyway in my opinion is UNACCEPTABLE in 2011 produce a kit whit huge mistakes like these!

We are not in early eighties and we are not trying to produce a kit of a misterious new soviet "object".
Nowadays to obtain good references It's enough doing a research on internet. I REALLY wonder how a rather famous kit company could do an incredible... like this!...

And of course I wonder how they could charge so much for so few...
