Hey guys

I thought I'd post photos of the new modern US figures from Legends and Evolution Miniatures. So far I've received EM 35046 and 35047 from Evolution. The Legends figure is on its way and I'll get the other Evolution one when its in stock. These are just osme quick photos to show you guys what they look like/what they come with.

35046:

35047:

So far I've attached the arms/heads but I'll hold off on the weapons until I've painted them. I am very impressed with these guys: the poses are realistic, the details are superb and the casting is flawless. They are very much recommended.
Photos of the others when they arrive

Thank you for posting the pics.. they look really nice with great detail. Can't wait to think up of a small scene to use them in!

I agree, I really like the looks of these guys, the only thing I see with some of the SOF guys is they all look a little to old. But I will be getting some of these regardless.

I can see what you mean, Jeremy they do look a little old, but that may just be the beard.
On another note, what sort of trousers would they be wearing? The box photos show them in desert DCUs (i think) but could they also be painted in jeans?

Hi Anirudh,

I did a quick search through my GMV/DUMMWV folder and saw on most pics that the SF guys are wearing the old 3-tone DCU. But I also saw ACU/UDP and plain tan. I would paint mine in DCU.

Thanks Hans-Hermann, I was pretty sure that DCUs were the most appropriate choice, but just wanted to be sure.
Also if anyone wants photos from particular angles or any close ups, dont hesitate to ask.

I like those figures. Legend has a new one coming soon, (ODA Warrant) and then after that - a LEFT HANDED SF dude.
I wore jeans occasionally on missions, so it's appropriate to paint them that way, but those trousers aren't cut that that way - too many seams in the wrong places, so you'd have to deal with that as well as the pockets.

As for the age, it is amazing how much older some dudes look with beards. However, some dudes are just plain old. I was 40 when I first deployed to Afghanistan, the other weapons sergeant was 47, our medics were 52 and 55. I can't remember everyone else's age, but the Team Leader of course was 30. He flew straight from the Q course to Afghanistan. We needed someone to sign for stuff...

Some pics:

Between Evolution and Legends we're getting some great modern figures nowadays, and I cant wait to see the new Legends guys. I presume the left-handed figure is based on you?

I hadn't even considered the cut of the trousers, but thats a very good point, so I'll leave them alone and go with Desert DCU.
Since you mentioned the ages of your team, I'm curious to know if there is an age limit for deployments?

Anirudh

Thanks for the photos btw, excellent reference photos!

I'd definitely recommend them Sean! It may not be evident in my photos but their body armour has the correct fine texture to it. The details are some of the best I've ever seen.

I don't think those things go together very well...still you could try.

Seriously though, I can't wait to get both the last EM set and the Legends figure and put them together with a tacoma or polaris atv (planning on scratchbuilding one soon!)

Post photos of what you do with these guys!

I agree with the figures...I got mine last week and they're absolutely beautiful!

I have seen some photos of guys in woodland BDU pants/tunics as well, though of course now that I say that I can't find em! Mig's SF Hilux is sitting in the "to start" pile with these badboys

As promised here are the photos of the Legends figure, along with some others.
The Legends offering is on par with the Evolution Miniatures figures, and together with them will be going into a small diorama.

The Masterclub modern american soldier is well sculpted, has excellent detail and is a good casting, but the attachment point for the head and arms aren't well defined and it took a bit of filing/movement to get them to sit properly.

The Djiti productions soldier is a good attempt, but a bit under-sized and the head and arms have a poor fit out of the box, and required some modifications and still need some filler.

Along with these soldiers, I took some photos of some of the civilian figures that I've also bought. The Blast Models Arab woman and child are up to the usual Blast standards and are a great release. The Djiti Productions Middle Eastern kid, however, is very very small. The entire figure is far too small to fit with other figures and probably won't be used in the end.

Hopfefully some of you find this useful/interesting.

I must have missed your response (trip to Pensacola) when you first posted it.

Whether of not the left handed figure is based on me or not, I'll let you decide when it comes out. After that, there should be an ODA Engineer (Demolitions)Sergeant coming out.

As for age of deployment - I knew a WWII vet who was recalled for Desert Storm. He was one of the top EOD guys in the country. I don't know what the regs actually state, but if they need you, you're coming back in.

Just because most of us SF guys are older and fatter doesn't make us less valuable. Try going up again a bunch of cantankerous old dudes who haven't yet had time for their morning coffee.

The new Legends releases are really filling a large hole in the market which is great!

Thats very surprising to say the least, but I can understand the reasons behind it. If you have the skills to do the job, the age is irrelevant I guess.
Thanks for the info.

The Blast and Masterclub figures are nice looking. Thanks for posting up those detail shots Anirudh. What sort of dio have you got planned?

No problem Karl, I thought they'd be useful for someone considering these figures.
I plan to have the Evolution and Legends figures questioning an afghan man outside a village house. (I'll get the evolutions figure when its available near me)
Alongside them I'll have the woman and child either in or near the house. I'm thinking of having an SF pickup behind them, but that depends if I can get one at a good price.

The masterclub and Djiti figures aren't part of the dioram, but I'd like to use the masterclub one with one of my Humvees, not sure which one yet.

Anirudh

EDIT: I have the Blast Talon EOD robot, would anyone be interested in photos of that as well?

I really like how the latest resin figure releases are almost one whole piece, which means less sawing and gluing of parts and a lot less work before painting. Sometimes the worst thing to a resin figure is a razor saw or a mototool.

Being one whole piece surely cuts down on the prep time and time spent on each figure, not to mention one doesn't have to putty, sand, and fuss with gluing gear on a figure and ensuring that the gear is flush and in the correct position.

I have the Evolution ODA figures and they look great!

That is a real bonus Peter and it really saves a lot of time and effort. However the photos may be a bit misleading, since I have attached the arms, heads and weapons to them, but the rest is all one piece.
The civilian figures are all one piece casting since they're very simple shapes. Have you got the third Evolutions figure Peter?

Hi Alex

Don't worry about this thread, its a good place to for your question. Your list is correct apart from:
MIG make 1 SF soldier, and 3 SEALS
2 SF operatives from Blackdog
Additionally Nato in Miniatures, MAIM (Modern Armies in Miniature , a new german company), and D-toys also have SF figures, or figures that could either be SF or normal troops.

Quick question for you guys...

The Evolution figures seem to be more like what you see in photos 2001-2003, whereas the Legend ODA boys look more like 2006 OP Medusa (Peltor headsets, wearing helmets, more modern plate carriers, mix of DCU and ACU, etc) Maybe someone with a professional opinion can chime in here?

great thread you have here Anirudh,

if you watch the Docu 'inside green berets' you'll notice An Operator that looks almost like the new ODA figure legend just released, same with the first Legend's ODA guy he looks alot like this guy

they are probably from around 2007.

the guy who is sculpting these figures also is making a Dumvee, again it is an exact copy from one in that docu.

can't wait to see some more of them comming
