The mine shoe boxes are pretty detailed, I have to add a few details to each box soon.

Small but stressful update....

Still sticking on parts and have some shots of the completed tow cable. The clamps were scratchbuilt and black nylon was used for the cable itself. Please enjow the pics. The clamp locations were found on detailed drawings in the new Puma book by SabingaMartin.

Both of your books on the Puma were invaluable during the build!

I made several mine shoe boxes....even though it is an early Puma, do you think it would be possible to add the exhaust deflector to this early model? The deflector will allow me to pack on more boxes.

Do you have a pic of a smoke grenade? I'd like build a couple of them to sit in the rack next to the hatch on the left (behind the remote weapon station). I'm guessing those are not the same smoke units that are loaded into the (2) smoke dischargers on the bow?

Today I tackled another one of the more stressful (to build) and eye cathcing features of the model....the rear rack!

The difficult part was how to make a jig to hold the parts in place while I glued everything up. After taking a few measurements and drawing the design in CAD, a small balsa wood jig was constructed to hold things in place.

Before I get to the pics I also built a kwik form to bend wire around to make the stiles of the rack. (3) exact(ish) copies had to be made for perfect alignment, so once they were bent into shape, I taped them together to make sure they were all the same size. Any long parts were sanded down to match the others. The tape really help hold everything while sanding.

Ok the following shots are of the jig I made.




After the jig had dried I inserted the stiles and used pins to lock them into position. Styrene rod was cut to make the rails and they were white glued onto their mini platforms ahead of super gluing them to the stiles. The white glue is only on long enough to hold the rod while i'm supergluing to avoid them shifting during assembly.

Once everything was superglued I carefully removed the delicate structure from the jig and presto...awesome rack!
I left off (2) more rails that are below the ones as seen in the pics below. It will be easier to add them once the rack is glued to the tank.

Here are a couple of pics of the mine shoe boxs and rear step recenty completed. I ruined the PE step so I had to sctratch one out of sheet brass and super glue impregnated tamya tape (as stiffeners). lesson learned measure twice........bend PE once!

Hi Forum,

Well finally getting to some paint on this forever project!

In the following shots,the (inside)tracks and running gear have been painted, weathered, and flat coated. As a remeinder the tracks, road wheels, and suspension was built and painted all at once.....pics look good but every time I say never again! The airbush gets in most of the nooks and crannies but there still is a lot of brush painting to tackle.

The skirts will cover most of this, so to ensure even painting I had to get this area in shape before I attach them.









The camo finish is Tamiya RLM-02 and the road wheel rubber is AV "rubber". Washes of MIG Ochre filter simulate dry dust in the dishes of the road wheels and tracks. The backdrop of dried sand/mud was acheived with MIG Gulf WAR SAND.

I never undestod how is it possible to perform such a great paintjob on completely built suspension system. I think I would lose my mind trying to get into all the nooks and crannies.

Looks really good so far. It seems there is light at the end of the long tunnel, eh? The project seems to be slowly coming to its end...

Thank Maki,

I wanted nice tight track runs, solidly attached to the running gear. It would have been difficult to attach the wheels and tracks after the painting stage. The model is so fragile, it would not have held up to the brute force it took to get the runs straight as you see them.

The draw back is a lengthy painting session mainly because of the amount of brush painting, I guess you pick your battles! (just think now I have to mask all of that off to finish painting the model!)

As for the time line I'm shooting to have it done for the AMPS show in a little over (2) week....ugh!

Speaking of the AMPS show, I have (2) tables set up for Legend Productions..... full of resins set, If going to the show, please stop by and say hello! We will also contribute some cool items for the raffle.

Oh happy day.

After some busy summer months I have finally started to attach the skirts...1st two installed on both sides without problems.

Got a little caulking to do and clean up around the join areas, but over all I'm pleased to be a few more steps to painting!
