Hello comrades.
I picked ut the new T-90 kit from Zvezda just before christmas and now that most of the holiday celebrations are over i have the time to build it.
My plan is to make an "active-buty" T-90 from the Georigian/Ozetschian conflict in 2008. It'll be OOB whit no figures on/in the tank but perhaps a diorama later.
Surpricingly good detailing for being a Zvezda kit. They even included the interior viewing system for the commander and gunner.
I also got 2 sets of decals and clear plastics. Am i supposed to get two?
I started in the reverse order...turret first.
Impressive detailing from zvezda. The turret is well on par whit miniarms detailing on the extra armour/ anti-radioation protection.
Z. have been generous enough to have the option of having the hatches opend as well as closed.

Time to have to remember that the T-90 in the 2008 conflict in South Ossetia did not participate.
Only the modern Russian armor 1/35

I guess i will change it to roughly be one from the Chechen/Dagestan war. Or maybe just some T-90 from the forces that was deployed somewhere close-by the Georgian border in 08' and didn't participate.
On a different note...
Do the russians put rugsacks and gear on their T-90 tanks? I've seen alot of old T-72 full whit stuff on them, but do they do the same on the T-90 in general terms?

The WIP build continues
It's time to get the turret together. And it did come together whitout any difficulties whatsoever.
Next up is the optics and some ERA armour...

But i get a bit confused.
According to Wikipedia and Moscow Defence Brief there was T-90A tanks in combat in Chechnyan/Dagestan invasion in 1999.

You have alot of fun ahead of you when you decide to build it.

Personaly i'm reading alot now about how to achieve the best "active duty" look on a tank, whit weathering and other stuff to make it look like it has been used and not factory clean.

...and here comes the optics and some other stuff.
Those "coupling" mechanical things for the Shtora system at either side of the canon cover was surpricingly easy to get in place. I only had to make some bigger connecting holes whit my pinvice for the Shtora connector pins.
Ie. in other kits such as Trumpeters T-62 i had some major pain geting one of those "couplings" for the canon-light in place and straight. Zvezdas plastics for the T-90 makes me think of Tristar...good stuff that's solid but not as solid as they break the instant you clip the from the sprue.

All this information - is nonsense. None of the Russian source, no such information nor photos, or other reliable information. Wikipedia - a garbage dump any untested information.
Trust to various dubious sources, I would not recommend, especially from Western countries.

Now it's time for the iconic IR boxes of the Shtora system on the T-90.
This is an example on how they look in an almost active view. Looks almost like lizard eyes.
This is what i will use to color the clear plastic part.
And this is how i did it. Very simple.
After letting it dry for about 30 minutes, i fitted one of the now colored parts on the front of the IR box.
I usually work fast but i guess this is about as much as i can manage untill new years eve.

Having mainly experienced the somewhat older zvezda kits, this looks like it is from another planet. Really nice detail OOTB. It will take a lot of self restraint not to empty the bank account
Whereas to an englishman the taking of a sledgehammer to crack a nut is a wrong decision and a sign of mental immaturity, to a russian the opposite is the case. In russian eyes the cracking of nuts is clearly what sledgehammers are for.

That was my doubt about this new kit Pit, but looking at the sprues you can notice that t-90 lower hull has 4 parts incredibly well molded
Old Zvezda t--72 kit had a rough one piece molded lower hull

Sorry for the late replies on my part.
Thanks for the very kind comments from all of you. I will soldier on whit the build. Currently fitting the Shtora "boxes" and adding some turret armour and stuff. Pics will be up later today.
The bottom part of the chassi (aka tub) is completly new, just like Mauro showed in the icture comparison. Btw, thanks Mauro for showing!

UPDATE 5
I've just fitted the Shtora IR boxes which was...once again...much easier than the instructions hinted. The most time consuming part(s) of the turret was to build all of the boxes and "stuff" that hangs on the side of the turret.
Also the first time i had to crank out the putty to fill the small guiding-holes on the Shtora boxes, because i don't want to use the cover for the IR lense.
I'm starting to wonder how this can be a zvezda kit? This kit is such a far cry from their older kits.
All manufacturers strive forwards to increase quality but this kit is a lightyear step forward for Zvezda.
