Hello,

Well, it’s a week to go before the campaign closes and as always, its panic time. Frankly, I wasn’t planning to go on with the project since I got stuck with this problem (a couple of months back, I think) on the canvas top I made from paper + white glue:

It all looked good prior to priming – but once past that stage it looked terrible. I tried all sorts of tricks to correct the hairy finish and fill up the gaps made by the unveven texture -- white glue, Mr. Surfacer, and even filler putty, but none seem to give a 100% fix.

Ok, so I tried to re-do it again – no dice.

Finally I told myself why not try to depict it as having a tarp over it? Seemed liked a good idea

After a while it didn’t seem so nice after all.

So by then I was resigned to shelve the project, and probably get back on to it for another Get-er-Done campaign in the future. I lost the side mirror as well, so it just further strengthened my resolve to forget it.

After a couple of weeks I decided to finish this – especially so that this is my first ever auto kit. So I prepared to depict it with the canvas cover on. It’s the easiest way out, right? Forget the open top, and I get to finish this one.

Still, having an open cover nagged me, so I decided to give it one more go. So the story goes that “…a tarp was put on top the canvas roof…” – don’t ask me why.

I guess this is the best I have done to date, so I’ll be sticking with it. It’s glossy because of a gloss coat I put it in prior to highlights / weathering.

Full speed ahead on the other stuff:

I thought I’d hand-brush the pre-shade given that its just a small kit. Used a rattlecan for the dunkelgelb as well. (…actually am just plain lazy to clean up the AB afterwards)

Clock is ticking. More to come.

Cheers,

Tat

Hi guys,

There's some beautiful work coming out of the garage these last weeks of the campaign! (Love that Steyr, Lap Man!) I know there are a few builds that are unlikely to meet the deadline (my own included ) so for those still under way I'll allow a few weeks of finish-up time. Just make sure you get your pics uploaded before the end of July!

And I'll get pics of my own progres up today, honest...

Congrats on your fine finish eMan!

Tom, thanks for the extension. It'll surely give all of us the much needed time to finish the builds.

My progress pics from last weekend's work:

Am now painting the interior bits. Not much coming from the painting guide so I'm just playing it by ear. From the time I took the pictures I've somehow lost the rear view mirror (what next?). Another bit to work out I guess...

Cheers,

Tat

Well, my "today" is a relative term! Still, it's only a week later, and I finally have the promised "proof of life" shots... These are quickies grabbed from the workbench (or the dust-collector, as it is now), so they aren't terribly good. Still, they do show some paint and progress. Better ones will follow when I've finished all the detail painting and thrown a coat of matt varnish on.

Now all I need is time...

Tom, I noticed that there are still some members needing some extra time, so I extended the deadline until 31st July.

Howdy Y'all
Thanks for the extension. Life has been coming at me at the speed of sound, or something like that. I've got the windscreen to finish on my GAZ 67. It got crazed from lacquer thinner when I airbrushed the frame. I'm going to wrap it in foil and paint it a canvas color.
Y'all take care,

Hi John, thanks - I wasn't sure of the correct procedure and was just gonna let late'uns like me add pics and posts even though the "official" time had ended! As you can guess, the dreaded "Real Life" has been eating up my time of late, and I'm in need of a day off to concentrate on this kind of admin...

Don, good luck with that "canvas" cover! (Tarps are a modeller's best friend...) Your windscreen is up there with my internal rear-view mirror, that hasn't survived the painting/masking process. I'm thinking of leaving it off on the presumption they were a bit frail (like in my old Plymouth Valiant).

Irvin: Nice! Wish I built that well.
Still trying to finish off that "canvas" windscreen cover on my GAZ 67. Just got it primed tonight. Need to put some color on it and figure out my daughter's camera. Mine broke.
Take care,

I'm stepping into the fold (and my first Campaign... hopefully I'm doing this right!)

I'm working on a Steyr 1500 Radio Command Car conversion.

Here's my progress report:

I'm hoping to have the paint on by the end of the month!

Irvin, that's a fine Citroen you built! Sure it's not a bigger scale?

Jake, Welcome to the showroom!

I was hoping to upload my own "finished pic" just now, but there's something odd going on in the Gallery. Still, Photobucket pics to the rescue!

Here's the score regarding end dates: I'm away on holiday from Sunday til the 14th August, so cannot dish out awards until I get back. If your pic is in the Campaign Gallery by then, you'll get a Scooby Snack! Oh, and please don't delete any of your pics (or move them about) until the end of August, as I need to harvest some for the post-Campaign Feature that I'll be writing. (It happens in other Campaigns, where folk clear out the clutter too quickly, and all that's left in the thread are those red "X" squares where the images used to be...)

Regards!

Hey Tom, Everyone, Anyone who still may be looking,
After 3 family crisis (crisees, crisises, whatever...), and a fried computer I'm finally back in the saddle. I finished almost a month ago but, eh.
Here's my Kommandeurwagen for anyone who cares.

And there you have it. The occupants are going to wait for a while.
Thanks Tom for running this, It was a great idea for a campaign,
Charlie

Tom, thanks for having me in this campaign -- just saw the ribbon, cool! It was a challenge as it was my first crack at doing a car -- smaller parts, windows, and all. I may try and do a glossy finish in the future. Cheers to all, Tat
