Hi Patrick,
I did some research about filling in the gap in the Cromwell's butt. My next question is, "What color is a Cromwell?" The research I did on the internet leaves me more confused. About the only thing I'm sure about is Tamiya's instructions probably have the wrong color. Any help with this?

Well, after scoping out the model stack I am all in with a Hasegawa 1/48th scale F-model Super Hornet with Steel Beach resin ACS Station, Steel Beach resin ECS pipes and Afterburner decals. Figured I would go with what I love most..USN/USMC Aviation. The scheme is tentatively VFA-211 "Checkmates" but I may change my mind five more times. Figured Pete and I can help out with the fixed wing portion of the campaign again. As always.....looking forward to it. Greg, can't wait to see the dio....your last one was awesome.

I am far from a color expert. I am from the school of "its close enough". That said, I painted mine Tamiya JA Green + Dark Yellow in a 50-50 mix. It was sprayed over a Black primer thinned 50% with their Laquer thinner. Here is what it looked like before any weathering:

I'm sure the purists will say its wrong, but its good enough for me.

Like a flashback nightmare, first thing I looked at when I cracked the box on the BA was the vinyl tires:


Uggg.... Same as they were in the GAZ kit. I sanded those down till they were "square" but in the process obliterated the tread. Don't feel like doing that again. I usually make do with whats in the kit, but I think I a going to spring for the Hauler wheels/tires this time around.

Patrick it looks like a good job to me!

Ian - A Stalingrad factory I've been wanting to do as long as the Sewer dio, so hopefully it will go as well again You look like you have a winner of kit there, I look forward to the decals, but the ones on the box cover look pretty awesome (having been a Robotech fan back as a kid- my Sci-fi geek side kinda similar plane right??

Well - made a start with the cockpit as usual, although I think I can insert it after the fuselage halves are together. From what I'm reading elsewhere, there might be a few challenges in store as regards fit of the wings and engine cowling! Still dithering over colour scheme. I think I'll go with the winter scheme, but I don't want to just do an all over white. From what I can gather, this bird would have had a factory standard 74/75/76 scheme which may have been overpainted in the field with a couple of shades of green,eventually followed by the winter whitewash.I don't think I'll bother with all that lot & may just go with one of the greys and the 2 greens hopefully showing through the white! Or maybe just the original scheme overlaid with white??

Pete---that cockpit detailing is absolutely beautiful. Great job!!


Greg---You sold me on VFA-103 Jolly Rogers. Forgot I had this sheet. This is the newer scheme which has no yellow trim. -103 it is.

Ian,I built that kit when it first came out,it is a real winner,enjoy.

this is my new building master as i felt my first attempt just didn't have that normandy look.
my latex is almost done so i'm eager to see how it pours out.
I'm unsure as to whether i want to fix my hobby-boss Sherman hull as I've heard a lot of criticism about it,is it really that bad?

I've enlisted in this campaign because the quarterscale is "my" scale. Mostly I build aircrafts of WW 2 and show them over at Aeroscale. So my build for this campaign will be this one:

I decided to make it a fictitious aircraft and not build the V 083 as most modelkit builders will probably do, as there were only 2 flyable aircraft of the A1/U4. One was destroyed in Aril 1945 before the Americans could get it and the other one crashed on the flight to Cherbourg shortly after the war. So unfortuantly no surviving aircraft .....
My model will be a bit of "what if ...." and become a bomber killer of JG 1 with several kill marks on the rudder. I hope this will be okay for this campaign, otherwise I can choose something else. I will start in a few weeks time as I'm working on Revell's Ventura at the moment, which should be finished by the end of this month.

Progress update on my Matilda.





The lower hull went together incredibly quickly, and I had a pleasantly easy time with the tracks. Not being forced to cut and sand 40 roadwheels is a real time saver.



Started on the upper hull and turret.



The figure. I debated including him at all, since I am very, very bad at figure painting but of course if I never try, I'll never improve.

At this point I have to decide if I am going to paint the suspension and tracks right now, or after I attach the side armor panels. I'm really split here. On one hand, it would be easier to get everything together before I put any paint on the thing, but then I worry about how visible the upper track run is going to be, and I know it would be a pain to try and get a brush in there with everything glued.

Torsten - welcome to the campaign and I like your idea for the me

Miniflea - I sighed in relief when you mentioned the wheels are so easy on that kit. I would just spray it black so it'll at least still be in shadow if you do need to go back and paint some but can't reach spots

Greg, I think I will do that. Also, I wanted to say your Panzer III looks fantastic. What tracks are you using?

Miniflea - I'm using the kit tracks. I just bent up the long runs and re-arranged the smaller links. I think I'll connect the front portions and just leave the rear track broken with damaged tires/wheels. I'm thinking of doing a slumped over dead commander in the turret too. I don't really have it all figured out yet.
