I have a bunch of kits I bought in Japan in the early 80s when I was a kid sitting in my stash.
This will be perfect for my first campaign.
Thanks for starting it.

The ribbon is cool! These are a few kits I was considering. The short time frame might push me to choose the Pz I.

Enlisted. Probably going to do either the Academy M1025 or M998 Humvee. I don't consider either to be old, because for me to do so would be admitting that I am getting old. It's tempting to do the Dragon AH-6J Little Bird.

Welcome Alex.
Well then just how old are you
You donīt have to be old, to own old kits and the campaign is targeting old plastic, not old modellers.
Younger ones may also join in.

Just enlisted. I'm going with the Esci 1/72 Pz Ib. The Stuka will have to wait for Jurassic Plastic MkII. Tripping down memory lane, folks.

Paul - is scratchbuilding allowed? Not that I'm much of a scratch builder, but I was messing about with making my own tow cables, and just in case I go with the Pz III, I might want to remove the moulded on one and replace it with my own. Maybe!!

Paul,
Old enough to know it. But still young enough to gripe about it.

I'll be building one of the Humvees. I don't think I'll have the time to do justice to the Little Bird. It doesn't seem all that long ago that these came out. That's the part that makes me feel old. It's like hearing Nirvana being played on a classic rock station.

Very catchy campaign name -- I've enlisted! Have a few Tamiya / Italeri kits that qualify (i.e. SAS Jeep) -- will look through the stash and finalize soon. Cheers, Tat

The thought is pretty cool...but, let this one cross all sites! Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines? Figgies? Hmmm...

Sounds pretty neat!

I have some old Italeri and Tamiya things in the pile... what about some of that eastern-bloc stuff - even when new they look OLD!

Someone did ask about whether some scratch would be OK - I too like to add on some scratch bits - cables, mods to molded-on tool-clips, antennae, hand-grabs, can-racks, etc. - to these oldies to try and help them along. After all, they DO have to sit on my shelves along-side other (more modern) stuff!

@Pete and Bob and the rest of us fossil collectors:
Please do not do any scratch building , the above mentioned tools, tow ropes etc. are exactly what I mean with "this must be compared to today"
With a little patience and a steady hand you can make that
stuff look good.

Hi Travis and Tat welcome both of you to the campaign, sorry that I didnīt mention that earlier Travis.

Sal, that fits perfectly. Now I have a guilty conscience
because I still owe the finished model to your "foto 2"
campaign.
Hope Iīve not missed anyone, if so just let me know.

Paul

OK! I'm good! It's old and it's really gonna be OOTB - no AM guns, track sets, PE, cables, no scratch improvs, etc.

I have some things which will fit and, seeing as it'll be cut, fit, glue (filling is OK, right?) sand, and paint, should go fairly quickly!

Uh.... what about decals and the like? Many of these old things came with rather crappy decals from the git-go, and if it is actually an OLD kit from the closet... those are unlikey to have improved with age. Are we allowed to use newer or better decals, or if you are like me, pull out the stencils and spray numbers and insigs (I've done that ever since about kit #2 and I do that on almost every build still - hardly ever used any decals!)?

Hi Bob,
good question about the decals .
Yes you can use new decals, or spray over templates.
Even in some newer kits the damned things go strange
after a couple of years
I just donīt want the kit itself to be changed.
The use of putty is also ok, if not a must in some cases

No probs Paul, I can live with that quite happily!

Can we use Jusassic paint? I'd say some of these are 40 years old & date back to my youthful modelling efforts! I left the modern tins in as size comparison.
One of the cans rattled when I shook it, and I wouldn't be too sure the others could still be viable! One of these days I'll have a look.

Anyone remember these?

Pete;

Yeah!

I have a bunch of tiny old Humbrol tins too! From before 1975... And I've used some just recently and they worked out OK!

Hey.... Now THERE's an idea for another campaign We already have one on old kits... maybe we could do one with genuinely OLD supplies and materials!

If I rethink my choice of kits and pick the Stuka, my RLM's are all pre 1988 Humbrols. They are all still viable.

O.k. Iīve got that stuff too:

and until about half a year ago I had some Matchbox paint
too. But that had gone off.

Remember these anyone

and I shall build one of these:
1976

1974

Paul, Nice choices!

You may get a kick out of this it`s a little worst for wear and needs some repair but I got an award for this well over 30 years ago.

Cheers Rob.

Thanks for the welcome Paul! Hey your Matchbox kit sure does bring back memories -- multi-colored plastic, 2 / 3 decal options, and that "M" stand... I've started the hobby with a Matchbox Ju 87, I remember it was molded in green and light blue plastic. I used a wire cutter to cut off parts from sprues, and krazy glue to put it all together. Sanding -- what's that? Hmmm, I sure have gone a long way from then. Cheers, Tat
