Paul, I have a GPA in the stash. It's too far along to even ask about. I have it saved for a dio I am planning (think Soviet lend-lease). I bought it in the mid-90s and it has 1974 stamped on the sprues.

Happy Holidays.

Well, I am burnt out on armor... for the time being and need a break or a refresher course. Martin (oldtimer) gave me the idea as I am proficient in old kits of aircraft, especially historical machines.

I do not see a date (but can find it on the Internet) on the kit or the instructions, but I have had this for sometime and looked real hard for it, a good price and one in good shape for like I said, I love historical machines... and this one I hope you will approve of:

While I am getting my 1/16 Panther finished I feel the need to work on another subject. Kinda like my heli build, I am nostalgic and am always on the look-out for kits I either had or missed... back in the day.

So watch ya think?

Howdy Paul:
The Tamiya kit numbers are:
Pak 40: 35047
Ford GPA: 35043 and the kit instructions say 1974

The Italeri 7.5 cm Howitzer is a re-issue of the old ESCI kit.
I still think all 3 of these kits qualify. They are definitely not up to current kit quality expected of post 2000 offerings.
Thanks,

Happy greetings to all,
@ Don: looks like I put my foot in it, I must have missed that release with the GPA, so ok my apologies and you can
build if you wish. With the Howitzer I wasnīt to sure either, but I suspected it as a re-issue. So thats also a
yes.

@Jeff S.: welcome mate, and that kit must be older than 2000
the way it looks. So in other words itīs a yes on that one.

@Alex: thanks for mentioning the facts on that kit dude, nobody is perfect and I have just proven that.

Party on all
Paul

Thanks Paul! It appears that this kit was first released in 1958 http://gallery.scalemodel.net/WrightFlyer.aspx so I guess it more than qualifies!

I just hope I can do it justice.

Paul, No problem. I actually had mine out the other week, giving it a look-over. I knew it was pre-2000, just because when i had picked mine up. I wouldn't have thought it to be a 1974 kit.

It looks like I'll be doing the 1/35 Academy M1025 Humvee (1992) or Dragon's AH-6J Little Bird (1997). I don't have anything older than that in the stash that hasn't been started.

Hello Neil,
welcome to the campaign, and a great choice you got there too.

Thankyou - quick question, as I couldn't see it in the rules, are AM decals allowed as aged decals are often unusable?

Jeff: a kit from the 50's, that's way cool!

Having gone thru what's on hand, the candidates I had were a couple of Tamiya Pz IIs, quad-gun Mobelwagen, a SAS Jeep; I think the Italeri Ostwind qualifies as well. And then some Esci and Trumpeter braille kits I bought in a fire sale some time back (though I have my doubts if the Trumpeter kits meet the pre-2000 benchmark). Anyways given that its a short campaign period I have narrowed it down to a scale I can manage:

The only date I've seen in the kit. Am guessing this was its release date:

If it is so, then it'll be 30 years old by the time the campaign starts next month!

Happy New Year to All!

Hi Tat,
yes that qualifies. This is going to be one great fun
campaign as there some kits going to be built, that are older than their builders, and a few builders who are older
than their kits (just).
Not much longer lads and then we can have a relaxing campaign for once.

Wow Tat! That Esci kit brings me back to the days when I'd ride my bike up to the local hobby shop!

I also looked at the Quad Mobelwagen but opted to go with a 1987? SU-122 I bought over 6 years ago. ...Having kits unbuilt for so long, my stash is obviously WAY too big!

I also found some AM engine deck screens I may have purchased with the kit(?), and some troops laying around. It'll be great to get thses out of the boxes an onto a shelf!

Paul: Yes, am looking forward to this. The campaign is one good way of clearing out those old, dated kits that will just sit and collect dust in anyone's stash. I have a feeling this will go like the Get R Done XXX campaigns used to clear out unfinished projects -- thanks for coming up with this idea!

Steve: It sure goes down memory lane -- In my case, I'd linger around the LHS looking, reading, and holding kits, wondering how many lunches I may have to skip so that I can buy one.

Cheers,

Tat

I was digging around in the stash and found a couple of other candidates. The Little Bird and Humvee both qualify but neither has that old feel to them.

I have a 1/48 scale Revell MiG-21PF. It says 2009 on the box but
I know it's a re-issue. Is that pushing it too much?
http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/rm/kit_rm_5482.shtml

Another one I have is a Verlindin Bergepanzer Recovery Conversion that I've had since the mid-90s. I've got a partially assembled Italeri Panzer IV that is the recommended kit for it, even though most of recover panzer 4s were built on ausf. Hs if memory serves.

I don't do well with resin. It really irritates my sinuses. That's why it's still unbuilt. So if that one is pushing it a bit, you'll get no argument from me about it.

Hi Alex,
I have no problems with re-issued kits. Jeff Tucker asked the same thing about Revells re-release of the Matchbox stuff, so itīs ok.
If you donīt want to do the P.IV thats no problem, your health counts more than a daft campaign.

Hi Steve, welcome to the Old School mate, as long as that etch wasnīt bought this side of 2000 then itīs alright.

Hi Tat, I still go there on my bike, and I still look into my wallet and ask "will my wife give me some more pocket money"

Paul, I think the Bergepanzer 4 probably fits the campaign criteria the best...old and gathering dust in the stash pile. The rest are old but not old-old.

I'll look it over and see just how much it'll take. Most of the resin is for small pieces. I think the biggest is the ditching beam. I built the Verlinden M113 Dozer conversion a few years ago. I had a nose bleed and a migraine for a couple of days.

Either way, I've got options. We'll see how it goes.

Alex,
Use a respirator! and get one if you don't have one, there is enough stuff we deal with that's an irritant if not down right hazardous that a respirator is a necessity.

Cheers Rob.

Hi Paul,
Just checking that a Tamiya Russian field car Gaz 67B is ok. It has Copyright 1973 on the box.

I hope it fits the criteria.

Hi Martin,
I thought it a bit strange that you was going to break up that wonderful collection of "Flying Maschines".

Your back up idea is just as welcome though .

OK, let's assume I'm gonna go with the Tamiya Pz iii Ausf M/N.

How do you more knowledgable guys think I should approach this one, ie what theatre of operations, and what colour scheme? I'm gonna be putting in a paint order soon, and I need to see what colours I don't already have. I've just done a DAK Pz ii, and my only other vehicle to date was a Bradley in Iraqi sand colours, so I'd like to try something different!
Cheers,
Pete

Pete, you may want to try this:

[FOR DISCUSSION ONLY]

Definitely not a Tamiya kit as this was an old Dragon Imperial release (kit #9015). This scheme is one option, if you want something different -- 3-color camo, Eastern Front campaign. The tank depicted has a quite a number of images online -- do a search for "dml 9015"

how about a jurassic Tamiya Stuart with a jurassic Commanders Series Models M3A1 conversion with some very early jurassic Eduard details.

I found this in the box

Tamiya used to give a little tube of glue in their kits.
