Well the cat is out of the bag, Meng Models will release an AMX-30 :

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=380135758728406&set=a.378639662211349.92120.329961117079204&type=1&theater

A very bold release indeed. Based on the photo it looks very good and fills an important gap in 1/35 Cold War armour.

I saw that too, but I can't find another clear information about it on the web, also Meng's site have some security issues I think.

Meng's interesting releases continues, very bold indeed..

I don't know my AMX-30s. Would this be appropriate for the Persian Gulf War?

They used in the First Gulf War / Operation Desert Storm (French named it Opération Daguet). I think they were AMX30 B2, but I don't exactly know which version.

I have to admit I don't know anything about this tank... so, what is it's importance.. as far as conflicts it took part in? I know Lebanon has a lot of French weapons.. anyone know if this was sold to Lebanon in any numbers?

Nevertheless, I respect MENG for thinking outside the "usual" box

Lebanese don't have them, but as I know beside France, Spain, Venezuela, Cyprus, Greece, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia have/had that tanks.

One tank regiment was deployed with AMX30B2 during GW1. The model MENG is about to release is the initial version, the same as the first Heller kit.
I hope that MENG will do other versions and variants.

so, what is it's importance..

Basically it was France`s cold war MBT. In service from 1966 untill the mid 90`s. Was also relatively succesfull as an export product. Might take a little converting, but now we can build a vehicle that dominated the mediterranean. Oh, and we can consign another horrific Heller kit to its rightfull place in the trashcan.

Who`s gonna model the one from Taxi 2?

I'm happy for the French modellers and for the new subject but....wouldn't they have released a T-90?

Where is it?

We need to be incredibly patient nowadays

Sorry for the OT

cheers

The tank in the film is basically a AMX30 B2. You already got some conversions for the Heller kit but without knowing Meng's kit, it's hard to tell whether or not they will fit it.
Hopefully, Meng will release other versions but it looks like they are more keen to surprise us with unexpected kits than developing a range from a basic vehicle.

Well, well, well !!!

Problem with French tanks is that they almost always look very much out of the ordinary .... if not to say "ugly" ... must have !!!!
Be looking forward to this one

Cheers
Christopher

Almost forgot:
Meng while you are at it, a AMX 30 ARV would be very welcome as well !!!

The AMX-30 is also a close sibling to the Leopard 1 (Both came from the MBT-60 Project) and a diorama showing them "site by site" would be nice. Being from a primarily French-German joint venture started in the 1950s makes it historically interesting.

Putting a Panther-F or an E50 next to the two would also be nice since MBT60 was heavily influenced by them (Both France and Germany used Panthers)

I'd prefer seeing the engineer variant as I already spent some hard earned euros in the Azimut conversion

Saw this at IPMS Telford today.

Meng had the AMX30 1:1 Tank next to their stand and Sprue shots of their 1/35th scale version.
The detail is crisp, as good as the Tortoise, includes 5 bits of PE, a transparent sprue for the optics & a small decal sheet.

I took lots of photos, I'll post them Monday if I get the chance.
Errr.... didn't see any separate tracks, but there was a sprue of brown-ish coloured individual track links.

Hello

the importance of this tank is in hi concepetion. Already it was mentioned that it was close to the Leopard 1. Both tanks represented a tank concept where speed was the main protection in contrast to the British and US conceptions of heavy armour.

Germany, France and Italy focused all the same tank cocepts (The FIG countries)

I think they announced the T-90 back when they did simply because of Zvezda's announcement.. and it was probably still in the early stages of development

Of course, it would be great if I were wrong.. and the T-90 turns out to be their next release after the AMX

I do not know anything about the AMX-30. Could it be possible to use the Meng chassis for an AUF-1?
