I have a bit of progress on mine, a few external fittings and such. I've got the lights on, the rear can rack and what I believe is a storage box. Some of the pieces to be added later are together but not cleaned up yet. I also put the crane base together, mostly to ck fit to the mount. It's pretty rough, and I expect the rest of the crane to be the same. I also want to do some hydraulic lines on it.

Rear. Light guards are from scrap PE and plastic; kits parts were pretty poor.

I hace a couple of pics of IDF M113s with what appear to be bash plates over the final drive housings, so I knocked some out using plastic strio and hex rod for bolt heads.

This is actually a pretty rough kit in a lot of places, notably how the left side headlights mount. I've tried to clean this area up, but I may have to hide it with a tarp or spare parts, don't know until I get primer on.
I also tried to detail up the driver's periscopes a little, not much in the kit.

I had a little time last night so I got started on the exterior. It seems like every single part had flash or pin marks or both, made for slow progress, but it's starting to look like the Clampett's truck, so that's good. I can see where a good set of etch would be very useful, but this is supposed to be a quick build, and for me it's going at the speed of light.....




I haven't decided if I'm going to wait for Friuls or order the AFV Club tracks, but I'm not ready for them for a while yet anyway.
I ran in to one big issue with the driver's hatch: with the crane in place, it can't open as it should, hits the crane before it gets to it's fully open, on the rest position. I suppose this is a kit omission, and I don't have any pics of the top of one of these to see if the Israelis modified the hatch itself or built a stop to hold it as I've glued it. I will probably whip something up to look like an extended "rest" bracket or mount.

Yea definitely go with the friuls. Granted they are pricey and take almost as long to make as the vehicle itself with all the cleanup and such, but to me the final result is worth it.
When done just right you get just the right sag that is distinctive with the M113.

Yeah, I really like Friuls. I'm just trying to figure out how to get them in the budget.

That hatch is rarely fully opened when the crane works , then when they drive the crane is on the "road position clamped to his support so the hatch does not interfer with Crane base .
A photo edge set would be terribly more réalistic than the plastic parts specially on all fixing stuff as thickness of brackets would match better to the real deal ! and it was not much more longer to use some of the parts on the outside photo edge set and maybe not all of these ?
Specially for the exhaust side protection that in the kit is and so ugly thick part !!
So in these conditions do you think that expensive and tricky Friul tracks will add more to your model ?
Academy one by one tracks if well assembled and wheathered can be a sufficient solution ( they also are time consuming !!!)

I am in with this kit, but not completely sure what actual vehicle it will end up being, but it will be in realm of what if. I am contemplating mounting a variation of the Marder APC early turret with a ATGM set-up.

I wasn't entirely happy with the Accurate Armour hull roof so I made my own. Lots of bolts from Scale Hardware and tie downs from Mouse House. I corrected the tiller bar mechanism and plan to do the same with the pivot steer handles.

Michel, thanks, I'll take a look.
I tried to get the hatch to go through it's travel with the crane base mounted, and it interferes. The only way to get the hatch to swing down was to remove the crane base, which can't be accurate. I think Academy mounted the crane too far forward, but it's way too late to correct that now. I'll just have to improvise.
Yes, I think Friuls are worth it, even w/o using PE on the rest of the model. The kit length and link tracks have a sink mark on every single track pad. I think I could have Friuls assembled and painted in considerably less time than I could get the kit tracks corrected and ready to go on. I really don't mind working with Friuls, and I think the results are well worth the effort.

I ordered some Spade Ace tracks today, never used them before so I'm interested to see how they compare to Friuls.

I've found mention of a Canadian trial vehicle with a CVR(w) Fox turret. Is this true?

I had not heard that before now and I haven't seen any photos. But its worth investigating.

I've got a spare Fox turret from a Sabre conversion set and it had me thinking.

"There were two variants built as engineering and test platforms. I can't remember how many of each type were built but one had the same turret that the Coyote/LAV III family have. The second had a modified FOX armoured car turret. It looked very much like the 30 or so FV 432's that the British Berlin Brigade had. One mounted the 25mm Chain gun and the other had the 30mm Rarden Cannon.

If memory serves there should be one floating around Borden at the Worthington Tank park Museum. It was there in 91 or 92. They may have been returned to FMC or DEW Engineering"

Well here is what I have done so far on my Wotif M113. It will be a stretched model mounting the BMP-2 Turret modified with an ATGM set-up. The hull will have bolt on armour panels.
I am not sure but contemplating a Digital camo scheme (CANPAT or a Winter Mod.)

I got a little time Friday, and did some exterior detail work, brackets, welds, bolt-heads, stuff like that. I need to nut up and start on the crane, but it's moving along.





I haven't decided on the final position of the rear ramp, so I'm leaving it workable as long as possible.

Depending on how nuts you want to go, here are a couple of drawings of the pivot steer mechanism. I'm putting this detail on my M113A2 with Delco turret.
