Ive been waiting for the Fennek in 1/35 scale for a very long time. Finally Trumpeter released it and while it was difficult to find the kit for a while, I finally managed it...

In the forums I was able to find only one build so far from the Trumpeter campaign. So



Although I have other projects on the bench,I dived into the box as soon as I got it.

The kit comes with a fairly large box with around 10+ sprues and a fret of photo etch.

After around 2 hours of work here is the bottom hull with partially finished interior.



The kit is really nicely engineered with high quality parts. Every part is molded with assembly details, so you know how to fit each part without any assembly errors.

Looking really good. Do all the Dutch Fenneks in Afghanistan have that slat armor over the windscreen?

Yes,first of all the fenneks in the afghanistan area did got the slat screens, now all the fenneks back home are slowly getting them.

Looks like a nice kit with nice fitting parts.. I'm waiting for the German version to be released.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the plates on the windscreen are not Slat-Armor because

- Slat needs a standoff distance between the slat and the surface you are protecting so that the particle stream from the HEAT warhead is disrupted. These does not have any stand-off.

-Why only on the windscreen? The armor all around on Fennek cannot protect against HEAT any how.

I think these are to reduce solar loading on the windscreen and act as a venetian blind. Also to eliminate sun glare from the windscreen as well to reduce visibility from long distances.

Another possibility might be for these to act as a ballistic armor against kinetic energy rounds, but they do not cover the front very good, even creating bullet traps. All in all the windscreen is transparent armor with the same protection level as the rest of the vehicle.

This! It's indeed not used as slat.

That's a lot of parts for what is a small vehicle. But it does look nice....will be watching with interest.

I try to spend around 40 minutes everyday on lunch break to Fennek. So far it is going slow but sure

I am planning on building another Fennek with German colors and display it together with a SdKfz 222 4x4 recon car. It would be an interesting couple...

Just got mine! Sweet! Are there any after market detailing sets. I saw in voyager web page that they are coming out with one soon, but no release date is mentioned. And nothing from Eduard. Do you guys know if there is anything else out there for this kit?

I would say the detail level in the kit itself is quite good. But ofcourse that's my opinion and you can always ask for more...

By the way, Ive completed the build of the kit. The top and bottom halves are not glued because of the interior painting. And Ive primed the interior.

could you post a pic of the top of the roof please? I'm thinking of a what-if version with a Live Resin Save-a-gunner turret on it with an M134 gattling gun....just as a fun build. Wondering how easy it would be to add.

Thanks Oykun, that's just what I was looking for. I reckon if I leave off the commanders hatch and have the SAG turret slightly off-set to the right it will work. As I said, it's planned as a fun build....

By the way: that's coming along lovely. An amazing amount of detail for such a small vehicle.
