Is that a M-1 Garand with a scope? It should be an Springfield 1903 with a scope.

Hi Chris,

it's a M1D, adopted as a sniper weapon in 1944 as long as I recollect (could be wrong on the year though!).

Cheers

Looks like M1C to me. They were indeed introduced into the war in 1944.

The scope on this rifle seem to be mounted too low.

way too low indeed! He'd be hard pressed to see anything useful through that scope!

AS ungainly as it appears, it is correct.

Great painting! Back to the M1 discussion, the scope would appear low, but it definitely should be offset to the left of the rifle. Recall that the M1 is clip fed, and after the 8th round is fired, the empty clip ejects basically straight up...

A few reference pictures for comparison.

Thanks for making me aware of that. It's absolutely logical of course, but I'm not used to clip-fed sniper rifles.

I swear I see a bolt handle on it in some of the pics, though. Like it's some sort of "Frankengun", a combo of an M1 and and M1903.

I have 3 of these figures. It is a warriors US army sniper in France. All of them are supplied with Springfield rifles. The snipers left eye is shut, cause he's aiming with his right- I see that you have painted the left but no matter, good work overall. Where did you get the ranger decals for the helmet and shoulder?

Cheers,

Domagoj.

Looks great, the only nit I see is that you have the "blue Sunoco" patch on the right sleeve.
