Wonderful guys! Big turn around in less than 24 hours means this will be another successful Campaign.

And of course... it's the Panther tank.

I'm thinking one of the Dragon offerings, with zimmerit. I think I can squeeze this one in.

Does it have to be a whole Panther, or could I just use part of one - say a turret :-)

OK - seeing as Panthers are the subject here, and it would be reasonable to expect that there are some Panther enthusiasts looking in.... THIS could be the place to float a first historical question about our kitty!

I am already thinking of doing one of those "steel-wheel" Ausf G that were built in the fall of 1944... and served in one or another unit involved in the "Battle of the Bulge" DEC 1944. My question is about the camo schemes that those Panthers, and other later-fall 1944 - production kitties - wore going into the BoB...

Steve Zaloga indicated in his Battle of the Bulge volumn (#7045) in the Concord Military Series that these late fall (Aug - DEC 1944) production Panthers came to the BoB wearing a "standard" basecoat of red oxide RAL 8012 (I THINK it was 8012...) with hard-edge striping or patterns of olive green (and sometimes also dunkelgelb) - that is, that Panthers (and Tiger II) in the BoB were mostly new production and routinely came wearing a current factory basecoat of rot-oxid rather than dunkelgelb or olivgrun. (The pics in that volumn support both this possible scheme plus a lack of zimm - no rot-oxid would have been applied over zimm, I think).

Any wisdom, knowledge or comment about this?

I can look into it deeper Bob but what I remember of the B.O.B. there were also Panther A's and Panther's disguised as US vehicles too. I think the striping was one division and not entirely ALL Panthers but I'll do some reading this weekend.

Jeff; Thanks! What I'm really seeking is any info and comment on the putative use of Rot-oxid RAL 8012 as the base-coat on new-production Panthers used at the BoB. The diagonal striped camo was, I think, something seen only on tanks of one unit on the Eastern Front in 1945 - but this did not, I think, appear in the BoB. The same putative rot-oxid base-coat was also indicated as being on late-1944-production Tiger II seen at the BoB.

I'm considering doing the Dragon or maybe Tamiya steel-wheel Panther as seen in DEC 1944 at the BoB, and so expect possibly a rot-oxid base-coat to be "the thing".

Rob,

I am thinking about it. I have a FAMO that I want to incorporate into a dio so I am thinking about having it revolve around the LSSH!!

Thanks Dave, but you don't have to show a start image until after we get started, which is October.
