Good to hear from you Terry, and thanks for the explanation.

All one-man-modeling-bands deserve a second chance, especially if they produce such interesting conversions... So, I hope you will manage to set all the records straight and continue to release new goodies.

Keep safe,
Mario

Yeah, second chance, third chance, fourth chance, fiftieth chance?

Reminds me of this, we guys at Armorama really do love feel good stories.

Hello Gents,

Thank you for all your input on this matter, and a big thanks to Terry for putting his head above the parapet.

Terry, yes, it was Dave Ryan and myself who bought the Chieftain conversion and it has now Arrived

It looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL and I am sure it will look great on the back of the Accurate Armour Antar on which we are going to put it.

With the problems a great number of modellers had with Cromwell Models, I was worried that the six-month waiting time associated with them might also have been the case with Castoff. I am pleased to say that it isn't.

The new workshop is obviously much bigger and better and I know of the difficulties of running your own business as I own one too, Hansen Fine Art.

Needless to say that both Dave and I will be back for more Cent and Chieftain bits in due time.

Kindest Regards

I knew there was a good reason as Terry is trying his best and now knows the business is tougher than first imagined.

Glad to hear it's all cleared up.

That first image looks like a major fire waiting to happen.

Ya, but all hazards are offset by the glass of red wine on the work bench!

Looks like he said "f**k it" & started boozing ! lol
Good to see he has a nice , clean , safe working area now.

Hey Christophe just as a point of interest, how many times and items have you purchased from Terry (Castoff) and have been stiffed by him for non delivery of goods?

If it's non, then what's your beef in this other than just stirring the pot.

Non of us are perfect in this world and I hope you don't live in a glass house!

He is here, he has already made good on missing items mentioned here, he has posted his address, there isn't a comparison to be made, especially with Cromwell.

Give the lad a chance and if your not actually missing something, then you haven't a axe to grind.

Keith,

What Regiment were you in? I am trying to find out the last unit in the British Army (Home or BAOR) to use the Chieftain 11.

We were in The Life Guards, I left in 1980 but the 5th Skins were still using the mkXI in 1992 if that helps.

The answer is >
The last British Regiment equipped with Chieftain was, The 1st Royal Tank Regiment, who were based at Aliwal Barracks, Tidworth at the time of handover of the last Mk.11's. in 1996 .

As Terry Indicated, I served in the Life Guards and during my time in the British Army, including as a young Junior Leader I was lucky to have trades, training and crewed the following.
Centurion (gunnery and radio trades, Junior Leaders Rgt. RAC)... With my regiment, the following vehicles, Saladin, Saracen, Ferret (Mk. 1, 2 and 4), Scorpion, Scimitar, Fox, Chieftain and Challenger 1.

Some of my qualifications include, Guards Depot drill and weapons instructor, Counter surviellance instructor, Gunnery instructor, AFV recognition instructor, NBC instructor and part of the training staff at BATUS (British Army Training Unit Suffield) Canada for seven months.

I served in Borneo, Malaysia, (briefly in Hong Kong) and then as part of the AMF(L) based out of our home base in Windsor.. Norway, Denmark, Greece and Turkey. Part of a training group based in the Sudan for a short period of time where we were able to use and evaluate BRDM 2's and BTR 60's.

Canada and of course BAOR. We were part of the huge exercise Spearpoint 80. Also known as Crusader 80.

Four years of my service were taken up by being stationed in Knightsbridge as a L/CoH. and part of our ceremonial Sqn. where I developed a healthy love/hate relationship with horses (depending on who you were riding).

I also hold a Joint Services Ski Instructors certificate (Gold)..
That is my service in a nutshell mate, hope that helps.

I have ordered from Terry the Warrior WRAP2 conversion last summer and i received the kit in great condition! I can assure you that you will receive your orders but you should be patient since as he mentioned above he is trying to produce items alone!I think that we should support this kind of efforts and encourage him to add more items to his products line! Happy to hear again from you Terry! Keep up the good work! Looking forward to see more in the future!

Keith, Terry,

Thanks for the info. I had a rough date of '92 in my mind but '96 comes as a real surprise.

Now to get cracking on them.

Hi Terry,

I understood that you bought masters from Gordon Brown. I ask myself if you ever, during your talks with him, came over a master of the "old" TWMP (Pearson Engineering) that was used with Centurion 105mm AVRE and Chieftain AVLB and ARVE Willich version before the newer version entered service. There was a kit existing of this in scale 1/35 by Scientific Armour many many years ago, which was said to be given to Cromwell when Scientific closed, but never appeared again since. I am the lucky owner of one kit (which I built at the time when it was available), but I guess there would be a market for it until now? Ever heard of this master?

Greetings
Andreas

In order to avoid opening a new topic i would like to ask some info about the Chieftain:
(1)All variants from MK5 to MK11 had the same hull?
(2)Which variants had the stillbrew turret? The MK10 and MK11 or also the MK9?
(3)Concerning castoff offerings:The kit with number #CR016 upgrades the Tamiya MK5 to MK8?
The set with number #CR007 upgrades the MK5 to MK10 and the conversion with number #CR008 the MK5 to MK11?

The Mk.8 and 9 were upgrades from earlier versions and they included Clansman radio and Gunnery (MRS) upgrades.

The Mk.10 added the Stillbrew armor and the Mk.11 dropped the large Infra Red / White light on the side of the turret and was refitted with TOG's system (Thermal Observation Gunnery System)..

This is taken from my Gunnery Intructor Books.

I hope that helps.

I have the conversions to Mk.8 and to Mk.11. They are beautifully cast wih very little trimming and sanding required.

All lower hulls from Mk.2 onwards are identical, the main differences can be found found externally. Engine and transmission decks, NBC pack, commanders angled sight head and cupola with angled periscope heads and Light projector box to the left of the gunners primary sight. Fume extractor changed on the barrel. Square ATU box under the front right antenna base. Modified turret baskets, taken care of by Castoff. One item many miss is, the sight telescope aperture in the front of the turret has a rubber plug with a retaining chain affixed to it.

A few more minor details but other items were electrical/mechanical upgrades and then Stillbrew and TOGS.
