We give you a quick peek at what''s inside the box of this new tool release from Tamiya. There is some very cool cast armor detail going on with this release.

The texture on this model looks very good and it shows some promise as regards what the finished model will look like. I like the look of the added extra set, but I would have liked to see some photo etched detail for the rear deck intakes. With all that said you can see that Tamiya is upping its game as regards armour models.

While the detail looks superb, I just can't justify the price. It seems like detailing an older kit would be more cost effective. Of course, I do realize that some either lack the skill to do this or prefer the highest possible quality. That is why I was a hardcore Dragon zealot. Without any media and vinyl tracks, I don't see where the price point is coming from.

Some real nice textures on this. The detail set looks nice as well, but without the rest of the interior, I don't really see the point.

Probably a nice alternative to building the incredibly detailed Dragon versions. Not all can handle a Dragon Panzer IV kit and this fills a need. And I have seen it available for less then that msrp price.

Hi Jim .. Great review ... The V is for Vomag (the company that built it and the Lang is for the long barreled version L70 as compared to the L48.

The kit looks great and I love the details that Tamiya are adding to their kits ..The cast look of the bogies is a first from any company . Tamiya just do it right ...Simple and easy to build and in the end you will sit it down next to other kits and it will stand up just fine and you don't get bogged down .. (I'm kinda bogged down on a Dragon kit right now so I know what I mean!!!) I for one would rather spend more time on the finish than the building and Tamiya are answering this type of market .. Good on them and I understand where this might not be everyones cup of tea ,but when ever I get into that bogged down state there is always a good old Tamiya kit to help you over the hump and moving forward again . Good on them.

At $70 plus shouldn't the detail set be included ? This kit looks really nice but a bit too rich for my blood.
Thank you Jim for the review !

I just did a price check and some online retailers have this on pre-order status for only $31.99 (+ shipping) so not anywhere near what the list price seemed to suggest.

Thanks for the review Jim. I ordered this kit and the Tamiya Phaeton. Did you get a chance to see the new Japanese Officers set that Tamiya is about to release? I think Tamiya is really trying to be competative with these NEW releases.

My Jagdpanzer cost $27.00 + shipping from Japan. That is nowhere near the crazy $70.00 MSRP.

Considering how strong the USD has been vs. the Yen lately, your far better off ordering from Japan vs getting it locally. The USD is worth 113 Yen the last time I looked, the highest its been in seven years. It was at 125 Yen back about 12 years ago.

it looks good, but those detail parts should come with the kit...I don't know why AFV Club does this...they started this "buy parts separately " scam... now Tamiya is following along. Academy puts everything in one box as does Dragon.
But, knowing me..I will buy all the new Tamiya kits any way..so....arrggg

Agreed. If the parts assembly are shown in the drawings you get with the kit it, at least to me, feels like they've subtracted from the kit rather than adding something with the detail parts.
