Hi All!
When test pictures of the BMP-2 were published on Facebook, somebody asked what kind of tracks will be provided... the answer was:
"tpe type tracks!but with very nice detail!"

Some days ago the postman came with my BMP-2. And the tracks... see pictures, very nice indeed
There are 3 of these very nicely detailed errors on each track.
The 30 yrs. old Tamiya tracks look better.
Thank you trumpeter!

wow, I'm really surprised, don't they sell a separate tracks set (workable or clickable)?

No, you have to buy one separately, because the original one is... well, just trash.

I'm pretty sure Trumpeter have announced a new set of BMP-2 indi-link tracks to go with this kit (not their current set which originally came from Armour Track Models) so maybe they're trying to drum up some demand.

Trumpeter kit 02031 is the old Armor Track set (Labelled as workable and 1966). They will not work with the new Trumpeter kits (well, they will not work or look correct anyhow).

The new set that supposedly will come out will, supposedly, have the clickable set from the BMP-1 kit. Not sure because I have not seen it yet.

I do not have a problem with the clickables nor the BMP-2 rubber-bands. They are both very usable, with a little work and care.

I'll take rubber bands over the terrible click-able tracks. I don't know if the last 2 BMP-1 kits I built had a bad batch of tracks, but they fit so loosely they would come apart if you looked at them funny. Glue barely solved the problem...

I just got this Trumpy BMP2 kit in the mail today. Needless to say, i was gutted at the Vinyl Tracks....they are hideous!

Question: Are BMP-1 & 2 tracks the same?

Thanks,
Gary

I think it's a marketing trick. They gave rubber tracks with the PT-76 and the BTR-50 kits to encourage you to buy their individual links tracks sets. This way they make more moeny but from my experience of the PT-76 indi links tracks I'll stay away of Trumpeter's offerings and use Friul ones instead.

BMP-1 and -2 can use each others track interchangably. While there are different patterns, none are strictly -1 or -2.

Hey thanks man! I did some digging and while there are some differences i saw, there were also alot of references of BMP-1 & 2 having the same tracks. So, i comfortable in going ahead and adding Fruilmodels BMP-1 Tracks to my Trumpy BMP 2.

Thanks Fellas,
Gary

I had the same problem with the BMP-1 workable tracks - they just wouldn't stay together. There's definitely room for improvement, in the plastic workable tracks that are currently available. I think maybe the clickable tracks need multiple pins in each link, to keep them from coming apart so easily.

Model Kasten make true workable plastic track with a pin on each end. It's a bit tedious to build but at least you get a strong track.
Concerning the BMPs tracks, they are the end connector type so there is no need to click them as long as the end connectors are provided by the manufacturer ala AFV Club.

Unfortunately, I can not fully agree. BMP-1 track end connectors have screws with protruding nuts, hence there are necessary indentations in the BMP-1 sprocket wheel between its teeth.
BMP-2 track end connectors have internal hollow screws without any nuts.
Basically you can use BMP-1 or 2 tracks with proper end connectors with BMP-1 sprocket wheel but you can not use BMP-1 tracks with proper end connectors with BMP-2 sprocket wheel.
If necessary, BMP-1 tracks could be used on BMP-2, but the change of sprocket wheels must be performed first. That's not timeconsuming or difficult operation.

Masterclub makes a set for both the BMP 1 and 2. Metal with resin pins, they look solid, not sure what kit they are designed for though.

I already ordered one set. Sprocket wheels included, it should be OK.
I may take pictures when it arrives and you are interested in.
I do not really understand why Trumpy put this useless thing into the box.

Arent those Tracks made for the old Dragon BMP's? If so will they work on the Trumpy BMP 2?

Hi Gary,
they're not labled as being made for any particular kit but don't think they will work with DMLs stock running gear.

Again, be warned, Trumpeter set 02031 is NOT a good set for the Trumpeter BMP-1. It is the old Armour Track set that was meant for the DML kit. My understanding, and I don't have the set to check, is that the tracks will not fit the idler/sprocket in the Trumpeter kit.

Can anyone with this set comment on this?

Does not this set come with resin sprockets like in its former packaging under Armour Tracks Models brand?

No. They will not. They are like Trumpy's T-54 tracks trash
