ComradeMP - I'm looking forward to your build. I have been working on a T-34/85 Model 1944 in North Korean markings for two years or so off and on, mostly off. These are great little kits. Mine is the CyberHobby version that had no clear sprue or P/E both of which are really needed. Yours is the complete kit with all this stuff?

I just looked at the completion date for this campaign and see I had better get a move on. My building time has been spent on other campaigns with nearer deadlines and now this one is becoming a nearer one. I have the same kit for BTB that Tat is working on. Its nice to hear it is a quick & easy build!

Thanks. I'm mostly done, slowed down only by some detailing I'm doing just to make the build look just a bit better.

I'm thinking this is probably similar to your kit. No clear parts or PE, and was rather surprised when the tracks I'm used to seeing in a nice little bag were on a couple sprues. Also rather used to seeing tons of sprues with lots of unused parts, but seems like they really just packed the essentials. The Tamiya ISU-152 kit has a couple clear lenses in it, the smaller ones seem to fit the headlight. So, that's one problem solved.

Turret built up real quick. Just need to add the tie downs and periscope parts on copula.

Gotta say I really like this kit. I've worked on newer DML T-34's, and there's so much to do. Here it's real nice and simple.

Here's where I am currently. Cut out the kit mesh by repeatedly cutting a line around the inside of the kit mesh. Dropped in a Alliance Works T-34 PE grille.

One of the things I want to do to improve this kit is this:

Shouldn't be to hard. Kit part lacks the triangular bits.

This is more or less what I'm aiming for:

Angel,

Sharp looking Nebelwerfer!

You look like you plan to blast that T-34 off your display!

Comrade - Good for Tamiya providing such useful spare parts. I bought a set of the resin headlights for mine which look OK but have no fluting.

Angel - That looks to be a mean little beast. Is it a rocket launcher?

I FINALLY got around to starting the old Tamiya Panzer II F/G last night. It dates from 1971 and shows its age in the details. Just the same, it looks like it will build well and should make a great little basic build which matches my skill set just perfectly. My fumble thumbs don't care for too many teeny-tiny parts. Gee, what are they gunna do when that 750+ campaign starts?

3. Any After Market items and scratch building/detailing items are allowed but only the tools shown in your original post can be used to add them.

I need a little clarification on this point.

I am (finally) working on the old 1971 Tamiya Panzer II F/G. I had intended an OOB build but for a set of Fruils. After consulting the research material a see that all of the operational vehicles I could see have the radio mast UP, Tamiya has molded it folded into a protective box.

Cutting the base of the mount off is no issue and adding an aerial is also straightforward. The problem is that Tamiya has molded the mast itself into the bottom of the box and I can think of no way to remove it given my modest skill level.

So - the obvious solution is to make a new box. I would like to make it out of wood as the original appears to be made of wood. I would like to cut the pieces on a laser.

As I read the above quoted rule, this would come under the category of scratch building and so the laser should be OK. Just the same, I do not wish to violate the spirit of the rule. Please advise me here. I can always build it as Tamiya molded it, I just would prefer to "improve" it.

Thanks Frederick and Paul for your comments!

It is Italeri Nebelwerfer. It is an ancient kit. It is not even worth detailing it when you have available LionRoar's Nebelwerfer.

I used it in this campaign in order to improve my painting skills and to build something fast.

Angel

Scratchbuilding and after market items are fine, as long as you only use the basic tools. I would state that the Laser would be counted as a tool, so as long as you stated that this is one of the tools you are going to use you're ok to go ahead.

I didn't. OK, I think I have a work around for this. I'll go ahead and use the kit part but only attach it lightly so I can remove it after completing this build.

Thanks for the clarification!

Ángel,

You made a fine test of the old kit.

For trivia's sake, that model is the former ESCI model. Came with 4 or 5 crewmembers dressed in heavy winter clothes.

Gang,

I present to you my Revell Cobra. I added Fireball Modelworks decals for the 'bluemax" insignia on the sail.

I present my model even though I have to disqualify myself. I had to use superglue on some parts and I think that increased my tools to 8.

It was a fun build, all the same.

Your Cobra looks pretty good for such an Old Dog. I still like the sleek lines of that copter.

Comrade - I love the brass strapping on your T-34. I just painted mine and they are not as nice!

More progress on the DAK Panzer II F. The decals were thick and sturdy which made them a joy to work with even if they don't hide very well.

The sprockets did not fit the Fruil tracks and so some of the teeth were trimmed off where they will be hard to see:

It came good in the end and the Fruils are a huge improvement on the rubber band tracks:

Here it is with more work done:

Last night the spare links were constructed and the kit track rack was trimmed of the molded on spare tracks and thinned to fit the new metal replacements. More later!

The Tamiya Panzer IIF is done. It is straight OOB except for the Fruil tracks. The kit spare tracks on the front were trimmed off with the sprue cutters and sanded down with the sanding stick. Only the 7 tools shown in the initial photos were used.

This is an old kit from 1971 and I have had it in my closet for decades. I didn't expect much but in the end the model turned out to look pretty good and have a certain amount of "charm" if a clanking old tank can be thought to have such an attribute.

This campaign is completed and the images of the completed model have been uploaded to the campaign gallery.

Congrats on your finish Paul! Yes, the Tamiya Pz II is indeed a joy to build. I still have a couple in the stash waiting for its day on the workbench

Here's my Pz II so far. Am painting it in sub-assemblies. Will be using the kit-supplied tracks so I've also put some paint to it before mounting.

Painted the tools and did all the washes today. Will be putting on a flat clear coat then continue working on it with oils.

Cheers,

Tat

Your take on the Panzer II F is looking good. What markings are you going to apply?

Good question Paul, as I've been thinking about that since I thought of doing a winter wonderland tank

I've seen pics / builds with large black turret numbers. Red colored numbers look cool as well, though I would think the tankers in such a winter landscape would rather keep their rides as insconpicuous as possible.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I can then look into the spares box and decide.

Cheers,

Tat

I was thinking about where the Pz II F might be likely to be seen in winter gear. Its hard to imagine that occupation duties in Europe would have needed winter whites. They would have been relegated to secondary duties by D-Day so that leaves the eastern front. I'm sure no expert & hope others will chime in here . . .

Hello,

In the end I've decided to use red turret numbers, I think it provides better contrast. I'm calling this one done:

Thanks for having me in this campaign!

Tat

This is how my nebelwerfer looks at the present time.

My idea is to depict it in the eastern front.

Now I need to do the washes, imitate grease in the elevation mechanism and mud.
