Does anyone know what Era was this tractor FAUN L912 SA 6x6 tractor, with the 25 ton trailer. I think it was post WWII an not sure what countries and if used in any wars or cargo used. I tried my best to find information but coming up with nothing, so I thought the great wonderful individuals on here would know about the german transport. I would greatly appreciate any help.

Happy modeling

From a German Wiki site: "The Faun L912/45 SA was a military truck of German commercial vehicle manufacturer Faun and belonged to the 1st generation of wheeled vehicles of the Bundeswehr (West German Army) post WWII. 214 vehicles of this type were delivered in 1958 to 1970."

If you need a reference, Tankograd Publications has a booklet on it.

Thanks
Gino, Gary

Did they fight any wars, conflicts, or just used in war games back in cold war Era. Or do you know what it could haul.

They were used during the Cold War and into the '80s. The first German intervention into any type of "hot" war was in the Balkans in the late '90s. I doubt any were left in service by that time. Typical loads on the 25 ton trailer would have initially been lighter US-built vehicles (jeeps, M113, M548, etc.) and later lighter W. German-made vehicles (unimog, Marder II, Piranha, etc.), anything less than 25 tons that would fit on the trailer.

Some examples:

Hi, theirs a company in Germany called Elite Modellbau, that has the FAUN L912 Tractor and the matching trailer for sale. As Gino said, this was the beginning of the 1st generation of trucks. When the German Military was restarted, it was using a mixture of different vehicles from other countries. At one time they where using the M19 tank transporter.

be aware, if you are planning on buying the Elite kit, you will get something which is not really classified as "elite"... flash, broken parts, mould shift, bubbles....I built it..

Would the leopard 1 be able to be towed on this, I ordered the book from tankguard for the tank transport. Looks like a good reference, I've slowly been doing resin for accessories to updates or conversions. What tools if you could make your life easier to put resin kits together if you could get whatever you need tools within couple hundred bucks for doing resin kits to assemble them kits.

No, the Leo 1 weighs 42 tons while the trailer only has a 25 ton capacity.

Hello, Gino

I'm trying to research some stuff for the tank transport and I'm not really getting any information. What did they get front us for that trailer to be used with or they used to towed somewhere, I'm seeing a lot of stuff from the Vietnam Era an Korean War maybe. I never really got into the Korean War. I got the book from tankguard that he recommended so I'll be getting that soon. What Era were they used mostly in the 1950s to 1970s maybe 1980s. What tanks did Germany get from us was that transport used on the east or west part of Germany , any good books or Web sites you can think of, I would really appreciate it, I like tank transports because there big an you can change subject matter on the trailer but there big an time consuming.

They were used from the late '50s until the early '80s. With the 25 ton trailer, they could haul engineering equipment and smaller AFVs such as an M113, Marder APC, other trucks, etc. With the capacity of the trailer only 25 tons, they would not be able to carry tanks since they would be too heavy. Even a late WWII/Korean War M26A1 was 45 tons. Sorry, no other pics or references, just what I pulled off the web.
