Very nice. I hadn't heard this coming. It looks to be a nice kit(s). Bring it on Trumpeter.

Would it be possible to make a civilian version of this kit or is it only used by the military? What time period is this truck used in?

I believe it was only a military truck. It was used from 1978 through the early '90s when it was replaced my the M915A2, which is a totally different truck. A few were still around during the early days of the war in Iraq ('03-'04 timeframe) as some National Guard units still had them and they were called to duty there.

M915A2

I have seen some in civilian use once they were sold as surplus equipment. They are mainly seen in the logging industry.

Gino... remember some time ago, this was announced as a Merit kit.. and back then you told me about the trailer bed by Italeri so I can build a gun truck like the OOP Miniman Factory kit, like this one...

I bought the Italeri trailer bed kit, and I've been waiting ever since for them to release this

I guess your memory is better than mine as I don't recall that. I'm glad I gave you good data on the trailer and you were able to get one. I can't wait to see your guntruck build.

Well, a lot of people ask you about a lot of things, so it would be difficult to remember all the questions

Check out this old thread when the pic of the 915 was in the Merit catalogue.. scroll down to the bottom and you'll see your reply

Is there anywhere I can find the dimensions of that enclosure in the back? I thought since I already have the trailer bed, I could start on that.

I also saw this one while Googling, it would make a nice project.. but I'm not sure if it was ever actually built.

There's a 1:1 one pictured on page 62 of the Tankograd book "Armoured/Gun Trucks of the US Army in Iraq" (without turret armor though). It's nicknamed "Heavy Metal".

I just found a downloadable PDF file with patterns to build a paper model of the whole gun truck.. I feel like the enclosure in the back (in the pic) looks too high here.. or is each one different in real life? The patterns could make it easy for me to cut the parts in plastic.

Yeah the sand colored one's mine and yeah it it is based on a real truck. Tankograd Iraq guntrucks book. Actual dimensions not so much as I eliminated the exhaust stack and moved the box forward. I used the tankograd only as a basis for my conversion on the miniman kit. I have since done the side mural work ala 'nam gun truck and upgraded with other weapons stations. I have 2 M917 dumps,M920, and M916 in various states of build. I am sure if you need to the thousanths of the box some french dude here could give you a redline drawing of his interpretaion of what the box is, or he can outline my errors on mine.

Hey, Tony.. didn't know who this belongs to, I hope it was OK that I posted it here... This is embarrassing, but I actually thought it was a CAD image at first.. can't tell the difference between a CAD and a real model anymore

Anyway, it looks really nice.

I guess you're right. All the pics I've seen so far show the top of the armored box level with the roof "spoiler"

Here's another view of "Heavy Metal" :

I guess I could try and print up the patterns and build it up with cardboard and see how it fits the trailer bed, and then decide the height when I actually have the truck kit.

By the way, that turret ring.. can I use one from an old HUMVEE kit, or is that a bespoke part?
