The stuff really does suck up the paint...I've been using cheap acrylics available at Michael's for about $1.25 a bottle - saves wasting expensive enamels on groundwork.

Thanks Darren, this is so cool to see how the masters do it. It is just too easy to take that skill level for granted and that those that are really good at it are really craftsman and artists.

There are acrylic sealers for wood that may help as a primer...
