I know that there are enough parts behind the door, desk, bed, boxes, and probably on top of things to build an entire vehicle plus I do not have carpet.

I was just wondering if anybody else building one of the Bronco kits came across this fit issue (step 12) ... The gas tank would not sit properly over the transmission floor hump, thus causing the driver-side front seat legs not to touch-down onto the floor.

I did a little carving and sanding to the hump and gas tank in order to correct the problem. I decided to fix this, as I'll be installing a figure onto the driver seat in the future.

On one of my Google search outings, I stumbled upon the image below, and decided to go with something close to that driver position — still need to move the left arm down just a bit.

The figure is from the MiniArt 'US Jeep Crew and MP' set with replacement Hornet head and hands.

Yes that figure is going to look good in the jeep. Always great to have a good reference to work to, so you can get a 'real' natural looking pose.

Okay where I am up to.

This GPA kit is a testament to Mr Tamiya's requirements for good engineered kits. Considering its age, circa mainstream availability of VCR's and the Atari 2600 (for those that remember them) it still goes together very well. The deck sections pop in the lower hull and need no filler to hold them in place. Even the rear tyre sections pop together and hold without glue...

There is a downside to the age though. We have far more access to reference material now, and some of the inaccuracies in the kit become very obvious when you compare the kit with references. Firstly, a lot of the detail is simplified or quite chunky, detail is overlooked and the kit suffers dimensionally.

One main issue is the rear of the lower hull. The kit has a centrally position ventral tunnel for the prop and the cavity for the tow hook offset from centre. In real life the cavity and hook are central and the tunnel is way over to one side. This also means the axle parts need to be shortened on the longer section and lengthen on the short side, which is exactly how the real assembly measures up. The kit also lacks any detail for the separate panels that make up the tunnel.

Then the bend in the rear panel from vertical down and back toward the front back is moulded as a sharp crease, when it is quite rounded. So, as A***ly retentive as I am, I took up saw, Dremel and sanding stick and styrene stock.


The kit also is missing the prominent ridges where the outside panels are spot welded to the inside ones and where the tunnel panel meets the outside one, and the very inner ones are too indistinct on the kit. Added these with strip styrene. The weld bead that runs across the rear just under the top of the hull needed to be added too


I have also started the interior. Added the Voyager side panels and braces, cut out the moulded in mesh at the rear seat area and on the top deck, etc.


Cut out the firewall section to add the two mesh panels, then checked my references and discovered the Voyager Panels are way too big. Covered that with stock styrene.



Still more to go inside.

Tried the press out the ridges in the upper hull side panel etch with a ball point pen as instructed, and destroyed the etch.

How you do this and get an even smooth and correctly shaped finish is beyond me. I should have just used strip to represent the raised ribbing. I will do that on the other parts. Will have to thin and rework the kit parts instead of the ruined etch.

Hmm... i have a slight problem. Well, several slight problems really, but i won't bother you guys with the rest of them

This problem concerns a jeep. This is what i have:




The problem is this: i enlisted in the campaign intending to build a jeep as cargo for a 2 1/2 ton GMC. Last Saturday i took the box with me to the monthly modelling club and at the end of the afternoon there was something resembling a jeep. The Tamiya kit builds well and practically falls together. I was pretty pleased with myself when i got home. Then i thought about posting the photo's and the problem became evident: i FORGOT to take the starting pictures of the unbuild kit.

This is what i intend to do with it:


The Tamiya GMC builds equally well. It was build a while ago. After considering several options for the cargo i got back to the Jeep. I remember a long time ago when i just got back into modelling i saw a few photo's of a Jeep in the back of a GMC. That's the very reason i bought the GMC in the first place This campaign provided a nice opportunity to build the Jeep.


So the question is: can i still go on with this jeep for this campaign?

That is usually the call for the build Moderator and usually they call for a pre-start pic to be eligible. However, Christian (Knuckles) has not posted here on Armorama since July, before the build started. I have sent him a private email to see if he is okay, but have had no response. I hope he is well.

Anyway, failing a Moderator, I suggest that we put this up for a vote of all those enrolled here in the build and who are following it. My vote is yes, as I believe one purpose of a group build is to encourage people to build and finish the kit and I also notice you have completed two other GB's in the past.

How does everyone else feel?
