So is the Trophy system now pretty much a standard fit on these tanks? Also, what's the purpose of those two empty brackets in front of the smoke grenade launchers?

AFAIK all new Mk.4s rolling off the production line are Trophy equipped, i.e. Mk.4Ms; earlier Mk.4s are slowly upgraded to 4M.

Mounting brackets for sensor-arrays. I see them on non-Trophy equipped Mk.4s too so they're most likely not Trophy-related.

Thanks for the quick response! Fairly certain those sensors are laser warning devices. US Army has them fitted to their helos.
Given how many videos are on the net of armor being destroyed by laser guided Kornet ATGM's (amongst other systems), I still can't understand why the US hasn't fitted their tanks and IFV's with something similar. Typical of the US military unfortunately.

On a semi-related note - anyone know if the Meng kit comes with those laser detectors? If not, you'd have to scratch-build them to replicate a "full-up" combat vehicle.

Check out #1650 for a close-up on that area: there's no anti-slip under the handles hence the brighter color.

According to this photo, yes, although they seem to be absent from most of the built-up examples I've seen. Maybe you can build with or without...?

There seems to be some disagreement as to whether the IDF made more than a couple of test/concept heavy APCs using M-48 chassis before committing to just using Centurions. Some sources imply there were more than just one or two, but a couple say only prototypes were made.
With the revelation of the Pereh system this might be part of the answer as to where all of the M-48 hulls went, but I do recall seeing a black & white photo of a M-48 based "Nagmah" vehicle not too long ago.

Some sources say the Magach based HAPC even saw service in Lebanon in the mid '90s, however, the truth is, it never served in the IDF.

Not for this project, that's for sure, as it was cancelled due to lack of sufficient funds (I don't know how many were actually built, but AFAIK a single prototype only).
