Not like I don't have enough partial builds laying around but the new AFV Club truck is very nice and couldn't help starting on the shelter.

Cannot help but wonder how similar that shop body is to the WWII design? It would be sweet to drop that onto a CCKW chassis and instantly back date the vehicle to WWII.

(And the entire plastic kit might cost what they want for the resin conversion.)

I really like the interior detailing to the point of even including the electric boxes on the front wall. (One of them is a Square D Safety Switch disconnect - worked for Square D for 20 years - I like that detail!)

Would substitute the Mirror Models air compressor (but convert it from gas to electric.) Model companies always over-simplify the air compressor for some reason????

The compressor originally came out of the Diamond T wrecker kit but Mirror sells the small compressor set separately in a two pack.



F.Y.I. The mesh shield on the pulleys is my addition. My Dad had a repair shop for air compressors and paint spray guns and I remember how the compressors always had safety guards over the pulley system.

I am working on a build review for this one too, going step by step.... Free advice, DRY FIT first and make sure you look at the pictures before and after the step you are on. Some of the callouts for how a part sits are not very descriptive.

Aahh yes indeed ... but they are different, look at the number of windows and the spacing of them.
Some scratchbuilding skills could probably convert the modern cabin into the old one ...

Already started snooping on Ebay to see if that resin conversion might be available. No luck. Sometimes you can luck out with model contest vendors and find stuff like this.

I think Michael Koenig is not referring to the Ordanance Maintenance Van Shop (ST5/ST6 shelter) but to Signal Corps Radio Van Truck K53 which has a totally different shelter from M109.

Lower chassis about done. Still want to add some wiring here and there. As the front cab assembly is the older AFV Club molds there are numerous knockout pin marks needing attention.

Do not know what the official designation was but there were other style shop bodies in WWII as shown below.


I figured I could add the side door easy enough to the AFV offering as well as change the cut outs over the dual rear wheels.

This is the K53, the same on your first picture. Search on Google for picture of the left side where there is another and larger door.

Overall base color of US Forest Green. Vehicle will be in Winter Verdant MERDC. Using AK Interactive paints. Will be using dash instruments and placards from Archer transfers.

The camera is a cruel mistress and really highlights flaws. Cleaned up the windshield frame and repainted it.





Wanted to ask a question to those who might know; on this build I mounted the rear light bracket on the outside edge of the bumper but on the earlier build for my TACSAT Shelter truck I mounted it behind the raised edge. The instructions aren't clear and I have not seen anything definitive on the internet. Figured I'd ask now before I get too far along.
